Greetings all,

Some Shermans I've been working on. Progress so far.....

M4 Sherman Mk I - 144th RAC, 33 Armd Div

M4 Sherman Mk I Hybrid - 144th RAC, 33 Armd Div

M4 Firefly Ic - 1st Royal Tank regt, 7th Armd Div

M10 Achillies Ic Sp - 75 Anti Tank Regiment RA - 11th Armd Div

There seems to be a bit aof a problem with the rear upper hull on the M4 Firefly Ic that for some reasom is sitting a bit too high !!!.

Cheers

Al

Hi ed,

The M4 and M4 Firefly are Tamiya Hulls with Dragion Turrets and the M4 Hybrid is the Dragon hull from the Ic and a Dragon Turret. They were made from leftovers from my Mk V builds.

Dragon are supposed to be releasing a new Ic Firefly Hybrid so I used the older hull to make the M4 Hybrid.

For the weathering I've used vallejo dark sand washes for the whitish marks and MIG light dust for the tops.

Base coat was 50/50 Tamiya Olive Drak and Dark Green with a few squirts of Vallejo Yellow Ochre.

They are a bit of a mix and match bunch.

Glad you liked them, they were fun to build.

The MIG powders are very useful and can be applied in many ways.

Cheers

Al

All have several Filters of MIG P245 Brown to belend things in first.

wow and i thought it was just..just paint it and dust it. same here..i don't commonly used true olive drab..i always go for all sorts of paint combination to achieved the right colors. the dusting is what i'm interested..you got my attention there. thanks alan now i'm planning to build a firely again..but will wait for the new dragon releases.

one question thought. did they equipped the firefly with DD(duplex drive)..just curious and i like to scrathbuilt this for my next build. thanks again.

Nice work Alan, they all look good. Have you got your hands on the Tasca Firefly yet?

Hi Pat,

Thanks they are coming along and it was good fun in the mix and match dept.

I haven't gotten around to getting the Tasca Firefly yet, but I am thinking about using one for a Sherman AVR with the Resicast conversions.

It would look good as is, but I don't have a setting for one in mind at the moment although that wouldn't be hard to correct lol, lol.

The loads on the IG Shermans are done if you missed the post it's here

I think they turnmed out pretty well in the end.

Working on a Churchill AVRE at the moment and hoping to start the Mobile Canteen this week also.

Cheers

Al

Hi Al,

Great work as always. One point. The 144th RAC serial. T187921 was General Stanislaw Maczek's Cromwell "Hela" of the 1st Polish Armoured Division.

Al-- I really like the weathering and paint job. You speak of a 50/50 mix. What pressure setting did you use to apply the paint? How much thinner did you add to your mix?
thanks

Hi Kevin,

Ha, thought you might check that. Just need a WD number!!!

DJ,

All my stuff is hand painted. On the base coat mix 50/50 I add several squirts of vallejo yellow which is inclined to thinken the paint considerable. I just use some water to thin it down so it spreads easily and smoothly. A couple of coats are normally required. Sorry not an exact science but it works for me.

Still got to add some contrast to the mud and do some stowage and crews but these were fun and I experimented with adding a cut down side rail and various other things I wanted to try out. The MIG filter Brown helps pull the whole paint job together.

Cheers

Hi ed,

sorry I missed the last piece of your post. All the DDs were 75mm. Several Fireflies were allocated to beach defence destruction at least in the case of the Forty Garry Horse. I have a good listing of their vehicles if you'd like a copy and have Excel. Lists all the known DD tanks they used and a lot of other stuff.

Cheers

Well I'm new to this site and the first thing I clap eyes on , are British Shermans, a man after my own heart. Very nice job on the weathering. I have a few in the stash to attend to myself, so look forward to seeing more of your work Alan.
