Come'on guys, last week before we start building. We need more peoples in here

For those who are still unsure it's time to browse the stash and come up with your two kits. And if you think that two kits may be too much then simply use the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid!).

Much of us have old kits in the stash that have been superseded(sp?) by newer ones. Why not choose those dusty old kits and build them OOB. This could be a very good occasion to try a new painting or weathering technic. Or simply enjoy a simple build before that Hyper-details project you have in mind.

Thread lightly and thread for fun.

Another option is to move down in scale as smaller kits will often be quicker (but not necassarily easier) to do.

I will go for two 1/72 kits to try something I have not tried in a long time. It will be funny to see how the Leopard II measures up next to a King Tiger.
Looking at the sprues the Leopard II actually seems a little bigger......

The Esci King Tiger will be a trip down memory lane as I build this kit some 15-20 years ago...

I took the a photo of my 1/72 Revell King Tiger side by side with my 1/72 Revell M1 Abrams. The King Tiger, while a formidable beast, was looking like the younger brother.

I would imagine the Leo2 as a result will actually be larger and will look more menacing I don't know the actual dimensions of each tank but I suppose the Leo2 is not smaller than the M1 Abrams, hmm?

Time to go kick some LHS butt... I ordered my models a month ago and still haven't heard a thing. While I believe in shopping local, I think it's time to more seriously consider the 'net to support my hobby!

7 days to go till we start... looking forwards to it!

Yeah, it is fun to think about the King Tiger as some crazy "overdone" huge tank. However, by todays standards it is probably not that extreme. I would guess the Leo II is the same size as the M1 and therefore bigger than the King Tiger.

This campaign will show the answer - keep watching this space My fingers are tickling.

BTW: we should make some banners for this campaign. For the flamethrower campaign I think the banners got us 2-3 extra participants almost immediately as I recall? I am not sure everybody in the forums has noticed this campaign

I will look into it during this or next week......

As it turns out I had some time to look into banners for this campaign today. Lets spread the word

How I wish there was a way to display more than one banner in our signatures!!!

Great work Jesper! Had there been a way, I would include this and the White-washed campaign banners in my signature, but alas, it is not possible. I really liked the "How the tiger changed its stripes into leopard spots" slogan

Hi Emre, thanks a lot. I thought it was a funny slogan that fitted the evolution concept pretty well.

@Richard: Glad you liked them.

Gentlemen....Staaaaaart your engine!

Green, green, green

Time to start building and gave fun. I would greatly appreciate if everyone could start a blog for each of their models. That way we will be able to share tricks, technics and encourage everyone in their goal.

This may also help bring some late coming participants.

This is the kits I will build:

Good luck to everyone and have fun

Those builds will be very interesting to follow. Especially since I am considering buying the Chi-Ha tank for the possible upcoming pacific campaign.

I am looking forward to hear the level of detail and how well it builds up.

I will be starting my King Tiger and Leopard 2 this week.

Richard, under which forum do you want your blogs to be? AFV or Construction? Does it matter?

I normally just use the campaign tread as I am only photografing the major stages, like construction completed, base coat, camouflage, weathering, finished.
Would that be okay?
However, if you would like I can start a blog under construction if you want?

I might get started on my King Tiger tonight. Can't wait to see how this old ESCI model turns out

@ Emre: Use whatever suit you. Don't forget to check the "blog" button if you are going to make a full build blog

@Jesper: You can go with your campaign ritual if you want The idea behind "Blogs" is to kinda motivate the participants but it's not mandatory.

To all participants: One important think is to use this thread as the command center. Keep it updated with your progress by linking to your "blog" thread or post pictures of your progress in here.

That way everyone will have a central point of focus instead of searching everywhere.

I have started on my King Tiger for this campaign and it has almost build itself. It is a really good kit especially since it is very old. I remember building this one when I was very young. Details are quite good and it builds up into a respectable King Tiger.

I just need to mount the tracks and anti bazooka shields. The tracks seem a little stiff, so I few that I cannot make them sack properly. However, this will be hidden by the side shields anyway, so I do not think it will be a problem.

More updates soon......

Well, short update on my King Tiger build.

My fear about not making the tracks sag turned out not to be a problem as the tracks simply kept breaking altogether!
I have tried to save it in different and desperate ways, but it did not work out.

I have decided to simply abandon this kit to the spares box. I will go to my LHS to see what else they have. This time I will go for something with link and lenghts tracks.

In the meantime I will start on my Leopard 2A4 from Revell with the new link and length tracks.

Don't like doing this but "I told you so"...

Will you buy another King Tiger? I will definitely recommend the Dragon's last offering (they have four as far as I know), the one for the Battle of the Bulge, it comes with lots of extra as well as two Fallschirmjager sets. Yes, it is 1/35 but will feel like heaven after your trouble

If not, you can still buy a Leopard 1 from Revell in 1/72 scale, they are nice.

Hi Emre

Yeah, I know you told me But I had already bought it, so I thought I would give it a try.
Anyway, I have also been warned about the link and length tracks of the Revell Leo 2A4. If that one goes bad I will have to start with 1/35 models again for this campaign.

Anyway, let us see what happens....

Hi Jesper,

Problem with some of the Revell tracks is their length and the angles at the connections. Where the track is supposed to turn around a roadwheel and have a slight bend, Revell gives two large pieces which are connected by nearly a high degree angle, which looks unusually sharp and out of place. What you can do is to perform minor surgeries, cut and shape them around corners and bends, then they look OK.

I would show you my King Tiger (it is very nice by the way) with bad tracks and my M1 Abrams whose tracks I changed by minor surgery so that you could compare, but my PC has busted its powersupply and I can't get access to my files.

I have now build the Revell Leopard 2 A4. It was a very good build without any problems. The tracks worked very well and fitted great into the sprockets etc. A very pleasant experience after the old Italeri/ESCI tracks.

Next is the painting....

Here's the link to my blog on my T-34/85. I just need to know how to make the pictures bigger?

Not sure, exactly, what I'll do for my "son" build... thinking a T-62 or a T-72.

A short update on my builds. I have given the Leopard 2 and green basecoat and brush painted the basic brown and black camouflage.
I have also been to my LHS and found a replacement for my ESCI King Tiger who had a severe track problem. I have choosen the Revell Pz. IV J as this one had link and length tracks. I hope it will come together as smoothly as the Revell Leopard 2.

More to follow.....
