Something the FAQ fails to mention is that certain discussion groups like Spare Parts and, IIRC, Introductions are excluded from your post tally. This is because a small group were using these forums to simply up their tally and thus bump their rank.

Although articles, be it reviews, OD's, News, etc don't serve to up your post count, they are a great way to support the community as a whole Pay it forward, so to speak.
