Hi at all,
in the process of planing the dio which will include some Figures (LRRPīs or Sealīs much work with converting) are the main Interest in the Airfix Bamboo House in 1/32. itīs very hard to get it and my hopeīs are on ebay. But itīs damn expensive. The highest price is 74 up!!!. Has anybody of you this unique kit and can say something about the quality. I know only the same House in 1/72 and itīs very good. There are two other huts in 1/35 from Custom Dioramics but they are not so Interesting and the costs are about 30. i think they are very simple. So what do you mean how good is that House from Airfix. many thanks for response and for Photos of the kit. Itīs hard too to find any photo of it..
Greetings
Stefan

Well... did you get it?
Hi Richard,
i donīt get it . The price get up to 40 and thats a lot for an old plastik kit.. So i will scratchbuild one by myself. I work as an technical draftsman so it wonīt be so difficult to to do a plan for an 1/35 Bamboo house on the PC. I still have the old 1/72 house so i only have to transfer the measurements on the plan and and use it to cut the plastic sheet in the right dimensions. Verlindenīs new bamboo stakes set in 1/35 is really nice and perfect for my attempt to scratchbuild. I will post some pictures of the working process so anybody could copy it to do the same.
Greetings
Stefan

Bad luck... e-bay can sometimes destroy our plans, but in the case of my losses, it's forced me to improvise, to get inventive, often with better, more satisfying results... Good luck with the build: you could try cocktail sticks woven together then make a mold and cast sheets of "woven bamboo" from resin... just a thought...
anyway, good luck, and keep us posted...

Hi at all,
now the ebay god was on my site . After more than three years of searching i finally have it in my hands. Now i can start the dio. Iīm still working on the figures but havenīt so much time . Here are the figures iīm working on
They are all from Hobby Fan and will be soon LRRPīs or Sealīs.
For itīs age the bamboo house is fantastic. Not as good as Resin but real impressive. Itīs really big and itīs a fantasic unique item for my collection.
I will place it in jungle vegetation with some Vietcongs and a SF Team redy to attack. I will add some process pictures in some days. Do you have any other ideas for a diorama or some pictures with this house in any other diorama?
Many thanks
Stefan

Stefan
I have some tips that might be helpful. I have been working on diorama subjects for several years. Before I start working on a diorama, I do some research , I go to the local book store and buy a small paperback on the subject of your diorama. In the History section of most bookstores you will find Military history. Your diorama will be about LRRP's? Look for the book called "Six Silent Men" by Reynel Martinez. Martinez was a LRRP in vietnam in 1966. Within the reading I'm sure you will find an "idea" for your dio. In other words try to recreate a single moment or situation of one of the missions Martinez and his buddies patrolled on. The book has several black/white photos and about $7.00 US dollars. Continue posting the pics.
What are the dimentions of your dio?
How many LRRP figures?
I'm currently working on a Navy Seal patrol...I'll post some pics soon.

Stefan I'm not sure if it'll help but here goes:

This was a little dio I did quite a while back. Unfortunately it only features part of a hut, and its not bamboo and its fashioned after huts in the Central Highlands. The roofing came off a coconut fibre broom and the walls were from the leaf base of a coconut palm.

I know the frustration of not getting 'the kit' you want. It's tough. I have had to go down the route of altering a diorama or scratching some things to get what I wanted in a project.
I know there are guys here who would help give pointers on scratching bambo houses.
Bambo is a totally 'doable' scratch build. If you can't get the one you want off ebay give it a go. Anything from old chop sticks, to doweling, to straws, to rolled paper would do the trick. Thatch or the cross hatch stuff could be done with paper or foil.
If you want some help just ask.
