I´m painting a US marine officer figure. Is the old Think 180 studios figure -It will be available again from Mig productions soon-. You can see it in Mig productions web site:
http://www.migproductions.com/
It´s the first one, the guy with cap and pointing with the finger.
I´m assuming the kit depicts a Marine officer in NBC suit.
I´d like to know if 3 color desert MOPP suits have been issued to marine units in Irak or Afghanistan. I´ve only seen woodland scheme NBC uniforms, and the Osprey book states that Tarawa Task force in Irak only had woodland MOPP suits. I prefer another scheme because I´ve already painted the kevlar vest in woodland camouflage.
And a final question about the seams in NBC suits: Are these located in the same places that the standard BDU? If someone knows of good web photo close-ups it will be most helpful. The photos in my reference books are quite small.
Thanks in advance.

I imagine that there were a few, but if I recall correctly there was a supply issue that resulted in US forces using the BDU pattern suit. Once the threat subsided after the invasion, I believe they were either left with the units or put in vehicles as the MOPP level was lowered and I'd be suprised if units are still deploying with them (though I wonder why not if they aren't with the recent chlorine attacks). If I also recall, there was never assumed any risk in Afghanistan so I highly doubt NBC suits were deployed with troops there. I may be wrong here, but I bet Gino will have an answer to this.

Jeff is right on the money. We (3ID) deployed with the Woodland pattern JS-LIST (new MOPP suit as on the Blast figure). Some replacements started coming in in late FEB - early MAR '03 with the Desert pattern JS-LIST. In early April '03, around 07 April if I remember correctly, we shed the JS-LIST and went down to standard DCUs. There were no MOPP suits deployed to A'stan since there was no NBC threat there.

The Marines used the woodland camo MOPP suit as my buddy was with the 7th Marines and I saw a bunch of his pics. They wore them all the way to Baghdad then removed them on the push inside of the city as they thought the threat was over. If it is a "March Up" scene the woodland camo Mopp suits is the accurate pattern. There are tons of pics of the Marines in their MOPP suits on the net.

Thanks. I´m painting it in woodland camo right now. I´ll try to depict a new/brighter appareance to differentiate the suit and the vest. I think this is also more realistic because the MOPP suit saw very little use and had not time to fade like normal BDU or the kevlar vest.
Thank you very much again.

That would be the right tactic. The MOPP suits looked like they took them right out of the package. There are quite a few pics on the net of the Marines in MOPP suits. Perhaps you only need to add a bit of dust as opposed to weathering. I look forward to seeing this. Is there a figure that has the MOPP suit? They are extremely bulky and w/o question add to the width of the figure.
