Aloha everyone!!
I was looking into ordering Trumpeter's AAVP-7A1 but would like to know if anyone can give me a run down on this kit. I'm assuming it is the Tamiya kit and if it is was wondering just how good of a copy it is. Or whether or not I should just be patient and wait for Tamiya to re-release their original kit once again (hopefully with the add on armor!)
Thank You in Advance!!
Kurt

The kit is very bad the rear wheels are completly false.
Keep the extra armor , the hull put it into the trash can.
I was very disappointed with the kit.

EXACTLY! With the exception of the extra armor, that kit was junk. Mine was almost like toy plastic. My plans are to combine the Tamiya kit with the armor, someday I'll finish it??!!

Hi Kurt
If you still have some doubts about Trumpeter's AAVP7 kit, just have a look at Pawel Krupowicz's review of its Mini Hobby clone :

Wow! Wow! Wow! Not much room for doubt on the consensus on this one. Thanks everyone for the heads up and saving me some money at the same time.
Happy Modelling!!

Does anyone know if this is the same kit as the Academy kit...?
Also, does the Academy kit contain the UGWS turret that Tamiya later threw in with the LVTP7 to turn it into an AAVP7...?
Thanks!
Much Aloha,
Johnny B.

From what I recall Johnny B., the Academy kit represents the earlier LVTP7 with the round headlight clusters recessed in the front. The Tamiya kit is the LVTP7A1 with the rectangular headlight cut outs. For the most part, the Academy and Tamiya kits are the same (big difference being the hull for the headlights) and the addition of a slightly different turret sprue in the Academy kit (vision ports aren't hollow). I'm fairly certain except for the hull differences, they were the same mold. Definitely not the UGWS that appeared in the most recent Tamiya kit.

Hi Johnny
Just check out Pawel's Academy kit review to see what's in the box. Apart from the headlights setup, there are some other differences, like the contour of the engine grille near the exhaust ...

Thanks, Sherb and Frenchy!
I'm sure it's been said before, but I sure wish that Tamiya would re-issue the AAVP7 with the EAAK reactive armor package...even if they did not bother to upgrade the suspension or muffler. Seems like it would fit into their current philosophy of adding upgrades to older kits...
Then again, someone like Trumpeter or Dragon would no doubt do a great job on a brand new kit.
Given that we see 'em on the news in Iraq pretty regularly (or at least did), this would only make the kit more desireable to modellers...
My two cents.
Thanks again, guys.
Much Aloha,
Johnny B.
