I'm gathering kits and material for a new diorama and need some info.

During what time period and in what location would the KV 1 "Big Turret" and German tanks been in close combat and what German vehicles would be there?

Can anyone help me with this question?

Thanks,
Mark

Hey Mark.
If you mean the KV-2 Model 1939, and the early days of Operation Barbarossa, then you probably be able to use Panzer II Ausf. B, C, D, E & F's, Panzer III Ausf. E, F, G, H & J's and Panzer IV Ausf. B, C, D, E & F1's.
The Panzer 35(t) and Panzer 38(t) Ausf. B, C, D, E & F would probably also do along with any number of SP's.
If there were any "Big Turret" KV's in action, they more than likely didn't remain in combat for too long past July '41.
I would recommend finding a picture of one of these beasts and see what Panzer division or regiment it was knocked out by.
I found a good shot of one knocked out in Latvia by 1st Panzer in Schiffer Military History VOL.55 "Stalin's Giants" KV- I & KV- II.
Hopefully, someone else can give you more details.
Looking forward to seeing your diorama.
Cheers

Or even this, as a competition for who can make the most top-heavy AFV

Hi,

Thanks for the help, guys. I didn't realize the "Big Turret" was used that early in the war. I'll update with pics when I finalize my diorama idea and begin building.

As a combat vehicle, the KV-2's were not very sucessful since once they were immobilized, they were a big target for the Germans.
Because of this and their poor anti-tank capability the Soviets stopped building them in late 1941.
Mind you, that didn't stop the Germans from using any KV-2's they captured.
A KV-2 was used as late as April 1945 to defend the Krupp manufacturing plant in Germany.
