OK, I finished a couple of OIF figures. There not supposed to represent any particular unit, since I havent decided What I'm going to do with them. Mostly, they were for practice. Please share any comments, suggestions, ways to improve, etc

BTW, please excuse my poor photography skills.

First off, welcome to Armorama.

This are quite excellent. What scale and what figures are these? Also where did you get the M240B and the M21?

Comments: again well. One thing you could do next time around is to fade the brown a bit. I tend to add a very little sand or white to the brown to fade it and make it not stand out so much. The color is not that stark in the first place, but the longer the uniform is worn in a desert environment, the more it becomes faded.

This is probably the result of lighting, but a dull coat on the IBA vest and butt pack may also be useful.

Your boots are very well done and represent the them better than I've seen before as far as colors. Maybe a light brown or black wash would work around the shoelace area.

Also, and I could (and probably am) be wrong, but I thought thigh pistol holsters were black.

And if you want, you could also make a sling for the 240B.

Again these are excellent figures and very well done. I hope these suggestions help you and I look forward to seeing your future work.

If I'm not mistaken, they are kitbashes of DML 1/35th figs, including parts from guys from the old "Panama" Marines, the Modern US Marines, and Delta. They look really good. I agree that the brown may be a bit too brown. Also, you'll want to get the MG actually INTO the gunner's left hand. Great work otherwise on the posing and on the kneepads, NOD mounts on the helmet, etc.

The pistol holster is correct, as that holster is just the "standard" one with added extender and thigh straps. The more purpose built thigh holsters, such as those that come in the DML Delta and SF set, can be found, in real life, in various colors including green, black, and even tan.

Good work.

These figures looks great. The impressive of the faces is very good. I hate painting faces, have to practice a lot. You have made a great painting job. The bodys and, legs and arms are from Dragon i think. The Heads are resin ones? I think the M21 is from blast models or the old dragon one from the old desert storm sniper set.. The M240B is from Hobby Fan or from the old Dragon modern wepons set i think. Looks very good.
These are excellent figures and very well done.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Very much appreciated.

The figures are kit-bashed as follows:
Black dude- DML modern Marines torso/arms, DML '93 Delta force legs, Warriors head. M240B is also from the modern Marines set. I added the handguard from round plastic stock and drilled some holes, plus Verlinden photoetched ammo belt.

White dude- legs and torso from DML modern Marines, arms from DML SWAT team (from the guy with the shotgun). M21 is from DML sniper team (good catch, Stefan)

Jeff, I used some Tamiya pastels (sand color) to fade the overall camo effect, but you're right, it could use some more. The "shine" is mostly due to lighting for the most part.

Robert, you're right about the machine gunners hand. It looked fine when I was dry-fitting, but didn't turn out so well after final assembly. I'm thinking I can carefully saw off the hand and reposition it.

Stefan, the heads are from Warriors, and they're very good! I wish they made more modern sets of heads (I think they make 2). This was really my first attempt at figures, and my first attempt at using oils for washes, etc. All details on the faces were done with oils. I haven't graduated to painting the whites of the eyes yet, so just a simple dot to represent the iris will do for now

All in all, these figs were a great learning experience. It really made me appreciate the really great figures I've seen on this site. Thanks to all you guys for your coments and suggestions.

Nice job.

I actually saw that Panama Marines kit better known as Modern Marines. I was acutally one of those Panama Marines and we didn't wear anything in our helmets. I believe the Army wore those canvas strips in their helmets during the invasion but ours were pretty much plain Kevlars. Save for the invasion we didn't wear helmets at all on Patrol.

Here is a picture of yours truly in Panama before we went on patrol.

So I will wait for my fellow modelers to tell me.

"You guys should add more mud to your trousers to make it more life like."

I am naturally joking of course.

Padelos, I sculpted them from Tamiya 2-part epoxy putty.

EagleSmack, thanks! I lived in Panama during the invasion (I was 12). It sure didn't take you guys long to end "hostilities"!
Thank you for your service!

They look great. I really like the sling on the M21. regarding the holster color, if you looked at 10 people carrying pistols in Iraq (at least back in 2005), you'd see 10 different colors/holster types...
