Hello all,
Working on a an Afghan project and wanted to know how late VDV units used the BMD - 1's in Afghanistan. Also, was the tan/soviet green cammo used on them. Thanks for any help.

There were BMD-1s still being used by Soviet VDV Recce as late as 1985 and 1986....maybe even until the withdrawl in 1988.
They were still a single Soviet green colour with white 3 digit vehicle numbers on the hull sides and right rear sponson. The left rear sponson had the VDV crest in white.
Do a google image search for "BMD Afghanistan" and you will find at least one image taken in Kabul in 1986.
