I am planing about building a early Tiger I in panzer grey . I am thinking eather the Skybow kit or Tamiya . I have built a few of the Tamiya 1/48 kits so I have an idea about how the Tiger would build up . I was wondering if any one knew any thing about the Skybow Tiger that would make it better/worse than the Tamiya kit ? Thanks , Toad .

The Skybow is better detailed, does not have a metal hull, molded on tools and other less-than-wonderful aspects of the Tamiya kits. Build and enjoy!

I've got a few of the Skybow Tigers (two late and one early). They are much nicer kits than the Tamiya Tiger, but the Tamiya Tiger is a pretty decent kit as well.

The Skybow tigers do come with vinyl tracks,I replaced mine with WWII Production resin tracks. But they are excellent kits.

Sorry, I was not paying attention......In my opinion, Tamiya is far ahead in the 48th arena. the molding is alot better

Are you sick?! The Skybow kits are streets ahead of Tamiya.

Would have to agree with this, The Skybow/Okuno/AFVclub Tigers are stunning, either OOB or add as much as you want to it. The tracks come out quite nice with some attention and TLC, if not there are link replacements available or metal ones available at QuarterKit.

I have never heard of Skybow. Do they make more than just the two Tigers? Goggle didn't come up with anything else.

Only the Tigers, and those have now passed into the hands of AFV Club, and are available from various vendors. Both Tiger kits are excellent. AFV club will soon be releasing a SturmMorser Tiger based on the late Tiger kit, as well as a SdKfz 251 Ausf C in 1/48. Photos are posted at

I just picked up and started the AFV Club early tiger today.. gotta say I'm glad I got that one instead of the Tamiya one.. It has the molded on details, but are leap years ahead of Tamiya... The AFV moulded on details are so crisp and look great that you'd never know they were moulded on after painted, where as the Tamiya ones are chunky and look toy like to me! Anyway, if you see one, pick it up!
