Aloha everyone!
I'm currently working on, amongnst many things, a Japanese Type 87 wheeled vehicle and would like to know if any has pics of these vehicles (or any of their vehicles) in Iraq? I don't think the Japanese are deployed to the Afghanistan theatre but if they are some pics from there would be great also.
Thank You Much!!

Hey Gary,
Yea I thought so too until I did a Google search and found one solitary picture of one in Iraq. The info given is that the Japanese deployed 6 of them for convoy support duty. That's why I'm hoping someone has more photos.......

Wow, I didn't know the Type 87 had been deployed to Iraq. Was the Type 82 also deployed, by any chance?

Really? I'd be interested in seeing that. Got a link to the pic?
Here's a link to a StrategyPage.com article that includes a very poor picture....

Yes, that's a bad picture. From the trees in the background, I'm having a hard time believing that's Iraq. Just cause it's on the internet, doesn't make it true.
I definitely agree Gary....especially as I've just came across the original picture, taken during a Japan Ground Self Defense Force base open house
The search is not over...

I did a search, but sofar no luck. It would be nice to have some kind of confirmation that the Type 87 was actually deployed, just to avoid a long, pointless search.

This article had a photo of a Japanese AFV of some sort. The photo looked like it could actually be from Iraq. I do not know enough about modern JGSDF armor to be able to positively identify it.

Hello.
I am sorry to disapoint you guys but JGSDF is not deploying Type87 or Type82 overseas.
JGSDF is trying very hard to keep a low profile so that they are not considered as combat troops by local people in Samawah.
They are using LAV armed with 5.56mmSAW and Type 96B armed with 50caliber machine gun.
The photo Robin posted is Type 96B like this one.

Aloha everyone!
Well thanks for unraveling the mystery everyone! Guess my Type 87 diorama I was thinking about will now take its place in the "what if?" category.
Thanks again!!

Here is the Tamiya kit from the JGSDF. They also have a figure kit available.
