Somewhere I saw a picture of an M3 Stuart, minus it's turret, used as a recon vehicle. I have been surfing the web for the last hour, using every search term I can think of, and I can't find the picture. Was I dreaming? Can anyone point me to the picture?
Thanks

Chuck,
You don't mean the one I did do you? It's been so long ago I can't even remember whether I just made the whole thing up. Although I know such command/recon tanks exsisted.

Is this what you're looking for Charles?

It's called an M3 Stuart Recce V - light reconnaissance carrier - a turretless Stuart V or VI. It was used by the PSZ ; Polish Army in the west, the Canadain Army, and the British Army

PS, you just gotta know who to ask...LOL

Eeeek! How could I leave you with out a link to the real thing!

Anyways most were based on the M3A3 Stuart and Stuart V.

Here is a site with some nice pics of a Canadian Recce VI which was based on the M5A1! PDG. :-)

Hi there

I've been looking at lots of old bookmarks for some information to help you out, but I can't find the site(s) I'm looking for.

As Kencelot said, the Recce Stuarts were used by Non-US Allied forces (Canadians, Brits, and Poles) in NW Europe and Italy (NZ troops too!). I read a nice description by an ex tanker of their use in Italy, and there was an OOB published by someone a while back (on Missing Links).
CURSES!
Where is that bookmark!

Found these with a google search for "stuart recce":

http://www.geocities.com/spoelstra.geo/cmp/stuart_vi_recce.html
http://tigertank.com/aslcrossroads/melfa.pdf
http://www.siemers.com/html/britain/asl_foreign.html

and this book review that may help:
http://www.missing-lynx.com/reviews/allied/nz.htm

Cheers

I was just wondering, would the M3 Stuart recon vehicle been used in Tunisia by the US?

Jim: Are you saying you built one? If so, are there pics posted somewhere?
I'm sure I want to do one, but have no idea how to detail the interior.

Chuck,
I did build one. The link is up above in my Allied gallery. It's pretty easy to spot. I can't remember for sure (I would have to dig out my old Squadron Signals Stuart book) but I think I may have modeled it off of a picture in that book. No internet 14 years ago so books were the only reference source back in them thar days.

It was a fun kit to make. I didn't go through the trouble of sratching an interior, which I would certainly do today. Much more info available.

Are you thinking of making one?

Jim,
I found the picsof your model. Yes, I'm gonna do one. As soon as I can find some shots of the interior I'll be starting.
Nice work on the model Jim.

Charles Hold your horses, or your Stuarts that is. The conversion trans-kits for this vehicle have been done and are available through Accurate Armour. I have both the early and the late sets and they are both super. I can Highly recommend them and, and and... they come with the full interior. Slap on some AFV club, or A/A tracks and your in business. By the way the Tamiya trackes are impossible. The end connectors are on each link. But then we all know that already don't we?

I have developed a new theory since I have become a visitor to this site. If Kencelot can't find it on the web it doesn't exist. I was looking through a bunch of old threads and see that he always finds a link for people. Not to say others don't also but he seems to be the king of links. This brings me to a questions, which search engine do you use? I myself have become a google fan, but would like to know what Kencelot and others use.

From one captain to another, or one sgt captain to a captain captain. Try Yahoo.com that is also good. Also Tony Mattalinos multi search engine and that of PMMS are also excellent. Now let me try to pull a Colonel Kencelot here and see how it comes out! Tony mattelinosScale Model index the other is http://www.pmms.webace.com.au/ There Nan na na na na! I'm sure Kencelot has already posted in response!

I'm in no postion to divulge any trade secrets... ...just kidding.

I use em all. Google, AltaVista, Yahoo, Mamma, MSN,...ect.

One hint: Most important is the "words" you choose to use in the engine. You would be amazed at how omitting one word or adding one word in the "search field" will effect your results.

You guys may be quick but I am the one who actually makes the BB code links work.

Andrew,
You are most correct about Ken's abilities in finding things. He found my wallet once too. What it was doing down in Florida I will never know.

I also you google quite a bit. If photos are you goal remember to try their image search. Google now has a feature in their advanced search that allows you to specify the SIZE of the image you want returned. Very useful for finding nice detail shots.
