Was browsing around my not-so-local hobby shop on saturday when I came across Tamiya's road sign set in 1/48 scale.
Now I haven't actually built anything in 1/48 as i'm a 1/35 man but for some reason I was drawn to the set and opened it up for a look inside, now here was the shock, there was no way the contents of this kit are 1/48 scale, i'm no expert as I say, but I took the spruce out of a Tamia 1/48 scale figure set to compare, and the fences are taller than the figures, as is the cart wheel in the set. In fact the kit contents were that 'overscale' I bought the set to use for 1/35 scale dioramas.
When at home I compared the set to the older 1/35 road sign set as I have a couple of them lying around, and admitedly the equivalent lamposts and telegraph poles are slightly smaller, but still way too big in my opinion.
Was wondering if you guys had an opinion on this? I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, I did a search and found no mention.
Cheers,
James
P.S. On another note the kit is excellent with a full set of transfers that save you from cutting out the signs from the back of the packet as with the 1/35 scale set. Another nice touch is the instruction sheet that gives you translations for the signs and the theatre of operations they were used in, a worthwhile purchase in any scale!

I guess you are. I don't have the 1/35 set to compare it to but 4 feet 6 inches for a cart wheel is not unreasonable (could perhaps have wider rims). I have a resin cart from Pend Oreille and the wheels are slightly greater in diameter but the rims/tyres are twice as thick. The fences scale out slightly smaller but since there is no set size for a fence, who cares. It's easier to lower the hight than to increase it anyway. Thirteen feet for a lamp post? I guess it might depend if it was found in a small town/village or a major city. [Edit] I just did some checking. the lamp post barely reaches the upstairs window sill on several Verlinden, Custom Dioramics and MIG resin buildings.[/Edit] One complaint that has been levelled against Tamiya since they introduced their 1/48 range has been the small size of their figures, particularly when compared to the 6 feet plus after market items. These tend to be of Arnie Schwarzenegger style physique rather than a typical 1940s frame.
