Academy has released an M3 Lee kit but ironically enough I would have expected a Grant tank to have been released as well. But so far, no indication one will be released. With there not being a great deal of difference I would have assumed Academy would have released both versions.

Academy's Lee has a lot of problems and was not well reviewed. Legend and ABM brought out update sets that replaced almost the whole exterior.
Hopefully Academy are working on correcting the faults and eventually (don't hold your breath) a Grant and the promised M7 Priest will be released.

I don't know what the problem is with producing Lee or Grant tanks, the Tamiya kit was pretty dodgy too. the Eduard PE set is a must if you want to create a half decent build.
Watch out for the wheels as well!

Good thing I didn't buy one then!
(I dislike Academy kits anyway.)

Airfix had a nice Grant in 1/32nd scale, it was quite q bit better than the Tamiya. Its the only kit I know of that has the counterweight for the short 75. I'm currently working on an Academy Lee, and lets just say its been an experience, maybe I'm doing it wrong but the superstructure has been nothing but trouble! The really frustrating part is that they came so close to a really nice model. I see that Academy has released their DS Sheridan apparently with some improvements over the Vietnam one, hopefully they will do the same with their M3 line.

HI
Sadly Academy's kits are not up to the uniqueness of their release. You mention the LEE, there is the WARRIOR and SHERIDAN to name a few of the others.
But, accuracy is up to the individual and if you are happy with the kit then great and as mentioned there are several update sets available for those who prefer more accuracy.
As far as the GRANT goes, maybe one day it will come out but if you want a good quality but somewhat expensive one then I would go out and buy the required resin, etch, tracks and new running gear.
A nice new GRANT would be more than welcome for fans of the first Desert war.
