I tried different methods to paint the tracks om my recent M113A3 and M1A2 builds. Here are the results.

For the M1A2, I used a base coat of MM Rust, overcoated (in what was basically a heavy drybrush technique) with MM Metalizer Burnt Metal, then painted the rubber pads with Polly S Scale Black. I finished them with a light airbrushed coat of highly diluted Tamiya Buff. Here are the tracks as seen from the side:

And here they are from underneath--you can see a lot more of the rust color from this angle (as well as some of my sloppy painting).

For the M113 tracks, I instead used MM Metalizer Dark Anodized Gray as the base coat, buffed lightly on the high points. I then painted the rubber pads with the same Polly S Scale Black I used the for the Abrams. I finished the tracks off with a black oil wash. I will also give this track the same light coat of thinned Tamiya Buff I used on the Abrams track later on. Here is the view from the side:

And here is the view from below (note that the segment to the left was not given the oil wash, so it looks lighter in color).

Let me know which one you guys think looks better.

I like the second technique better. The tracks look great!

Thanks for sharing.

Actually either one looks good.

I guess it is according to what model.
