I jus bought the DML StuG 3 C/D in a hobby shop in Oklahoma City Ok. I'm gonna build it for the Barbarossa group build My questions are,did they use the 36 cm or 40cm tracks The markings are for Stug Abt 177 and StuG Abt 243 Are the markings correct? The crosses are white, allthough they look more yellow than white
Hopefully I can find some dry transfer StuG markings I prefer them to decals Also would the track guide horns be hollow?
Thanks in advance #:-)

Hey Chad,
We have the same kit for the Build... I'm pretty sure that the C/D model has the 40cm tracks... As far as the markings, I'd guess that they are white crosses. I like to use stencils for the crosses. I've got quite a few different ones now, and they are even better than dry transfers for simple markings like crosses and numbers.
The tracks should definitely have hollow guide horns.
What cool little kit!
Later,
Tim

The change-over to 40cm track occured with the Ausf. B, so the Ausf C/D uses the 40cm track..

Hi Major G,
Yes, Stu.Gesch.Abt.177 is depicted in Achtung Panzer #5 page 16 showing a C/D Stug.III in 1941 Russia.
And the C/D used the 40 cm tracks.

The 40 cm track was introduced as an improvement in de Stug III Ausf B in the Autum of 1940. The Ausf C/D came with this tracks.
In early 1941 when the Ausf C was introduced the crosses used in German vehicles were white. The yellow crosses were used in the begining of the war specially in the Poland and French invasions. By the time of Barbarosa the crosses in German vehicles were white with the center in the hull color (Panzer Grey) or in black.
The 177 Stug Brigade was deployed to the east in Sept. 1941 and disbanded in winter 42/43 in Stalingrad. Then was reformed in 1944.
The 243 Stug Brigade was deployed to Rusia in June 1941 at the begining of Barbarosa and was destroyed in Stalingrad.
