I started this diorama mid April 2007. It is of the 2nd Rangers Battalion assaulting Omaha beach on D-Day. Could not afford PNSud bunker so used a cheap Italeri version

The base is made from old school Papier-Mache, natural beach sand and oil-based paint left over from painting the house. Beach obstacles are self-made. Kits from Pegasus, Airfix, and Ace. Have not furnished bunker interior and have stuck a spare Flak 88 in until i've finished Pak 43. Have'nt sprayed figures with Matte finish either. Hard to find it in Oz.

Comments welcome.

Looks good, that Pegasus set has to be one of the best 1/72 plastic sets out...I can't wait for their line of Soviets. Oh braille scale, how I love you.

Hi Chas, very impressive dio. I like the black and white photos. What is the overall size of your layout? Vince

It's size is about 115x50cm. Sorry about the colour photos. Photographing in 1/72 is possibly the hardest thing to do on earth!

Looks quite good so far.

Just a quick tip. The shell explosions in the water don't look very convincing (in my opinion). If it is possible to remove them, you could try sculpting them mith Milliput or something like that, so they looked something like THIS

Keep it up!

Very cool diorama.

One think could be to press the tank a little more into the groundwork. It kind of floats on the sand.

However, overall a very nice diorama. Thanks for sharing

To me, that Sherman looks out of place. It's as though its just appeared with no indication of how it got there (no LCM/LCT, no deep wading gear, no track marks etc). Apart from that it looks pretty good.

BTW, do you realise the tank has a British serial number?

Well here is my pressed in Sherman plus some more pics. Anyone know what some better markings could be for a U.S D-Day tank?

Yes the explosion is made from stuffing found in teddy bears or quilts.

Glad you like it.
