I was wondering how thick you can pour resin layers to make a "deep water" scene. I am thinking about (insert sinister laughter) doing a dio based on a famous photo, and I would need about 2 inches of depth at the deepest.
I remember back...when? There was a FANTASTIC article about pouring resin in either FSM or Military Modeler. I remember the dio was a couple of Native American canoes, and this stunning blue green translucent water with fishies and all!...
Any help?
Thanks.

Take a look at my M3 Dio post in the Diorama forum. I poured about 2 quarter inch layers to get a half inch. There really isn't a height restriction if you let each layer dry. I plan on going about 4 - 5 inches deep on the Splash Campaign. I would keep each layer at about .25" and let it set till hard (about 24 hours).

Ach! Ausgeseichnet! Vielen Dank.
Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was a quarter or a half.

Thanks, that saved me having to ask that same question. Anybody know anything about that straight out of the bottle stuff? How thick can you pour that? Is it best to pre-color the mix before you pour or paint the base the color you want it? If you can precolor it what are some good colors?

In general, most "water" simulation products can be poured as deep as desired... but need to be done in multiple layers of 1/8 inch.... you CAN do thicker pours, but they tend to shrink more noticeably than more shallow pours.
Also, consider that after each thin pour, add a few "streaks" of color... greens, blues, browns, etc... then when you have mutliple layers, the water looks really deep and appears to have "flow" caused by the perception of different colors at different depths.
You can also add "bulk depth" by starting off with a layer of clear acrylic plastic... then add a layer or three of clear resin and you will have REAL depth quickly.
