Matt, are you using photographs to sculpt the faces? There is an uncanny resemblance in some of the figures.

Aaaagh! I'm not sculpting the faces! Way out of my league, these are all supplied by the ever superb Hornet Models with the odd Resicast head. Although I do my drawings out of my head and then search through my headsets for a comparison, its nothing more than a coincidence that they match up so well. Spooky.

Sorry, I missed that part when I looked at your site earlier Matt. It just struck me how especially the wounded Para looks like Lt. Dennis Simpson, it is probably the hair.
Great conversion work and sculpting never the less.

On a side note, just going through the pics in ABtF, I just noticed that in the pic of Capt. McKay and comrades (last pic in my edition) the two Corporals on the left seem to be wearing German belts instead of the regulation webbing belt?

I must admit you've lost me a bit there Henk, not sure I know what ABtF is, can you enlighten me?

I'm extremely flattered by your request but I'm going to have to work my head/face sculpting along with kit, weapons etc before I can even think of producing these figures for retail, I believe the work has to be 100% original without using any third party additions such as kit and heads etc. However, I could approach some of the manufacturers to see if they'd be interested in my body sculpts and their heads....? Anybody got any advice? Other than that I'd be happy to work on some figures that you could add to... the possibilities are endless! LOL
Cheers again

Gday Matt
These are A1!
The subject matter for starters is most interesting, as is the choice of scene with wounded troops.
You have a keen eye for sculpting and natural posing, which clearly is derived from drawing ability! Nice folds in the uniforms, and I hear you about sculpting heads (or not); I'm sculpting everything you are, save for hands at the moment... What is you choice of putty, and for what parts? Looks to be more than one used.
Cheers
Brad

Hi Brad
Yep, I've been keeping an eye on your builds and really like your sculpting technique. I seem to struggle with it at first but after some carving and sanding it all seems to come together ok in the end... I was only using Milliput but then discovered Magic Sculpt! Its the future that is... my god I love it! So now I build the bulk of the figure with Milliput over a wire frame and do all the fancy stuff with Magic Sculpt. I'm not even considering faces until this dio is finished and then I'm thinking of larger scale piece (120mm) of Kate ter Horst - the Angel of Arnhem... I've got an idea see...

Seeing your talent to create a scene with atmosphere, I very much look forward to that one. Will we get a hint..

Original poses, very good eye. Like Brad already sayed, the sketch already shows your artistic talent.

Well - and this is only a germ of an idea - I see Kate ter Horst stood on some cellar steps, reading the poem as she does in 'Theirs is the Glory' at her feet will be a wounded British Para and (either) a wounded British Airborne or a wounded German soldier gazing up at her. On the cellar wall behind her head will be something to represent a halo, maybe a hole in the brickwork or a circular light? I haven't sketched it out yet or really given it too much thought until this dio is complete. Any thoughts from you guys?

Matt-This is awsome! Some of the finest, most stunning sculpting ive ever seen. I only wish you could cast these up and make some copies, becuase Id love these figures, I have so many ideas for Arnhem dio's but the lack of decent interesting Airbourne figs on the market limits my options. I cant wait to see this dio done, it looks to be truely inspiring and a very emotional scene.
On another note, ive been away for a while and not very active on the net. But wayy back when you started this I said I would get some details for you from my Grandad who operated a 75mm in the fields surrounding the church. Well I managed to get him to talk about some details and recorded it but I just need to type it up, I have some interesting details about the action he was invloved in. Also have you seen the book Airbourne Gunners? (sorry cant remember the author) its a must have if you're planning anything to do with the action around the church. Will try and sort those things out for you asap.
keep up the good work-love it!

Matt they are truly incredible figures! Two of the most interesting figures I've seen for years. Love the detail and the natural posing. These need to be retailed as I'd definitely buy them! Brilliant work mate!

Cheers me old mates
Your praise makes it all worthwhile, I'll pass on your words to my girlfriend who has to sit and watch me carving away at these guys night after night.
I reckon I'm gonna have to approach some of the figure manufacturers then? I'll let you know.
