Friends,

As well as many others I'm joining in the Splash Campaign... I've got one question on the Rules and Regs though.

In the Rules and Regs section of the Campaigns I read :

Keith will post one last surprise element in a dedicated post in the diorama folder on the eve of the starting date (14 March 2003) : this element also HAS TO BE in the diorama.

I think I must have missed this special element. Do you guys know what element this is ?

Don't feel left out - I haven't seen it yet either. I've been watching pretty close with the new features and everything it's been really interesting. With all the activity I haven't seen the Surprise.

Danny,
Is your keen eagle eye tired from watching too mucht Iraq war on TV ? The answer to your question is there in the open, though. It's in a message from Keith underneath the guidelines in the Splash campaign page.

I'll copy it here : "Actually the "Surprise" element is that the winner will be by POLL vote - peoples choice, instead of a group of "official judges".... why? Heck because if i judge, I can''t participate! "

I admit I had hoped for a complicating element, too. But it's good that things are not too complicated. No need to scare away people who'd like to try their hand at making water.

Then again.... hmmm...

In the first dio campaign there was no rule that said we had to make a sniper or snow, but many agreed to include those elements. Much more fun when the choice gets restricted.
What if we take the guidelines a bit further and add that extra little element, just for those who feel like adding that. For the kick of it.... ?

What could such element be ? No nature element : we have the water already.
A timeframe element ? (The 1980's ? The Iraq war ? Desert Storm ?)
A story element ? (the dio must be a love scene, it must represent a movie scene, something that was on the news since the startup of Armorama (2002), ...)
A content element ? (include at least one animal, or a bridge ?)
A complicating element ? (water must be both static (like in a cup) and streaming (like from a tap).

is anyone game to add a "niche" to this campaign ? What could be add ?

I look forward to your suggestions.

A little history here folks... at first, we were going to do a "must have" of civilians along with a soldier - with a maximum of four figures...
and then we decided to add an element of skill in that you must ALSO have water...

the final twist was that we would be judged by a "jury of our peers".... (I figured that was the only way I could join the fun too!)

Sorry if I misled you there.... so we have restrictions now on

Size:
Period:
Price/Cost
Figures
Elements (water!)

If we got much pickier, it would have to be the number of buttons allowed on Tunics beyond the 1918 uniforms of the wehrmacht!

... watching that green CNN screen

Can someone explain to me why the Iraqi army - a country that is almost exclusively desert - wears GREEN uniforms ? Wouldn't desert tones be just a bit more efficient ?

Pink would be more appropriate, since that's the colour that is least visible in a desert.

I think they still wear green to be invisible on the green night vision displays #:-)

As the green camo is no use against the infra red systems of the us (they are visible anyway) I think it would be funny to see the Iraqi army in purple camo suits.

Or gold or silver (some kind of radar jamming suits)

This is also a nice suggestion...... I present you the newest Iraqi dessert uniforms

I'm not sure it would look good with a green belt, but I like the red bonnet and the goggles.

Why a green belt????? Why not a nice red one to get a really good fitting outfit #:-) or a nice black one with a gold buckle and diamonds #:-)

remember no matter what kind of camo they wear they will be seen by IR

I heard that the iraqi's were going to change to ziploc baggies... because you can "see right throught them".... (this is their idea of stealth!).

Also, is it TRUE that Pink is the least discrernable color in the desert? I was told it was actually a gray-tan for "yellow sand" enviroments, and terra cotta for blue/purple mountain rainges.... but the other night there was a Pink Iraqi pick up truck mounting AA that we pursued.... (the truck was also adorned with an "NYPD BLUE" bumper sticker)

It's not that strange the SAS still use their "Pinkies" for desert actions.

Well let's all dress up in pink and hit a local bar then........ :-)
