Would Patton's M8 Greyhound command car have been whitewashed for his participation in the relief of Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge campaign?
Thanks!

I will venture that it was not. There are some shots of him in an M-20 but I have never seen one of him in an M-8.

Thanks. It was an M20 he was in. I saw it in some footage I watched a while ago.

I believe that Patton typically used a jeep and the command car version of the 3/4 ton truck rather than armored cars.

John--there are several shots of him in a jeep with probably plexiglass windows, no top entering Bastogne in December of 1944. The M-20 photo was taken during the Saar Campaign of October- November '44. In this one he is riding with his hand on the .50 and Averill Harriman (then ambassador to Russia) is sitting in the forward portion of the turret area. I am sure some enterprise person will post the photos.

I would try to get pics/screenshots of the footage that I watched, but I'm pretty sure that would be a copyright violation.

Pat-- good find. I believe he used this one in North Africa. The 1AC bumper marking (1st Armored Corps) was the outfit he took into Africa prior to taking over II Corps. Be nice to track down an internet shot of him in the M-20. I have several films showing him in the vehicle. It had what I would imagine are plexiglass windows for the drivers and some seating for occupants.
thanks again

Rob
Are they still displaying the car he had his fatal accident in at the museum?

Yes, at the Patton Museum they still have on display the command car he was riding in at the time of his accident and his command jeep. I was just there over the 4th holiday and saw both.

Don't know about an internet shot, but Squadron's US Armored Cars in Action has at least one shot of the M20. It wasn't whitewashed when photographed, and in addition to the little plexiglass windscreens it had Patton's two air horns mounted on the left front ot the vehicle. Don't have the book nearby, but I think it also showed a pintle mount for a .50 cal MG.
