Here’s another question for the brilliant minds out there. Which is the best Tamiya paint colour for Russian Armour? Please state XF number as well as paint colour name.

I just purchased a new jar of MM Russian Armor Green (#2129). It is part of their new paint color collection. The collection seemed to have several different specific colors for all types.
It is not Tamiya but it is Russian specific.

I'll begin with the often heard statement that there was no standard green used by the Soviets during the war.
With that said, I've used olive green XF-58 lightened with XF-2. The Dark Green XF-61 is too dark unless you'll be doing a whitewash over it, in which case the contrast is really nice to simulate chipped/worn white paint.
When not whitewashing, my favorite color for basecoating Soviet armor is actually Polly Scale's US TAC Dk. Green
In the end though, with all the washing and filtering going on, it really doesn't matter what you use as long as its a deep green.

WW II Russian armor was painted a grassy green. I use Tamiya XF-5 Flat Green on all my WW II Russian vehicles. It will look too bright when first applied but after 2 washes of black or burnt umber it's just right.

I have asked for Tamiya paint colours because I like the way they spray, they give very good coverage, and cleaning up afterwards is a doddle. Apart from Johnson’s clear its all I use in my airbrush, I do use other paints but I brush those on. I have been told to use XF-13 and you mention XF-58 and XF-61 and as I have the entire range of Trumpeter KV tanks to paint I am willing to use alternate colours but I do want to stick with Tamiya paints due to the amount of spraying ahead of me.
