Hallo Ich finde die dio prima! (feel free to correct my feeble german )
Posted: Monday, July 16, 2007 - 06:39 AM UTC
Hi Bastian. Glad you found the article helpful. Thats exactly how I build up the bases also .... photoframe and balsa sheet .. it gives a nice professional look to the finished base. I also add some base/balsa wood to the inside of the corners for extra strength .... this base will get a lot of handling when adding groundwork, painting and models.
Good luck with your project!!

I like the logs and the layout is good. One thing I would like to see is some added dirt at the base of the vertical logs. In the last image there looks like a recess at the base of the right side logs. The logs would be dug in and have dirt tightly packed right up to them.

Bastian,
Maybe it's just an optical illusion, or the way the photo was taken or something; but the front of the base looks like it's about 4" (10cm) thick. Personally, I think it looks great. (Your woodworking skills are 1000x better than mine. I don't think I could ever build a square box!) The logs are nice. What island is this supposed to be, or is it a generic Pacific island?

Hi Bastian,
Great dio base so far. I have two questions, first, what did you use (material) for your groundwork. Second, where can I find Frank's article you're using as reference.
Thanks,
--Rob
