The other day a poster told a horror story of his small child destroying the work of years. I felt for him but since nothing like that had happened to me I couldn’t really feel his pain. Well now I can!
I took a couple of shots of my first diorama in mock up stage to send to a friend. Here they are.
Now I know I’ve had a lot of work to do but I had high hopes of being done by this coming Saturday for the Hobbytown USA modeling contest.
After taking these pictures I put the figures back on my workbench to continue painting them. For the time being I put the truck on it’s new base on a small bookcase in our craft’s room. Late my wife went back into the room to get something. The next thing I hear is a crash and my wife yelling, “Oh NO! I BROKE IT!”
You guessed it. Amazing what a 30 inch drop can do.
She’s certainly sorry and offered to buy me another one but I’m afraid she just doesn’t get it. It’s not the money it’s the time, and effort put into it. Oh well, I suppose this happens to everybody.

Many condolences Mate!!!
When I was younger I had the ceiling covered in planes hanging up. I loved the B-52 since my sister was in the Air Force and was B-52 Simulator Tech. She gave me all the manuals... well anyway my Step Mother got me a B-52 in 1/72 so I had to have it right over my bed. The thing was I misjudged the weight and was rudely awakened one night... It looked a little like your pics...

Sorry it had to happen to you mate.
With all due respect, but when i first saw the pic (without reading the post), i thought you're making a diorama with a truck hit by artillery shell or something. Maybe you can do some magic, and salvage it to a pretty battle casualty diorama. No offence !

I feel your sorrow man I had the same thing a couple of times. You know the story of your dad coming in looking at your stuff and of course he has to touch it. Then you hear a very soft click and the next thing your dad is asking: "was that part hanging theer all the time like that???"
But there is still hope to make something cool out of it. go to this link to see what I have done with a model that almost shared the same faith as yours and it will be serving in a new dio soon Rusty Hanomag(in progress)
grab your dremel and....... Dremel :-) :-)

I was that fellow you mentioned in your opening remarks... and in the words of a recent scandlous president fond of using his intern staff mate as a cigar humidor

Sorry to see your model in pieces. Maybe you could salvage it and convert into a destroyed truck. Just a thought.

I know the feeling.. I had finished a Patrol Boat River (PBR) a few years ago.. My first real model after being out of it for a few years... The paint was decent, and the figures didnt look to bad.. Had it displayed on top of a bookself... Well, I went for a book, and yup, some how I knocked it off... Tottaly destroyed down to the hull... I just looked at it with a sinking feeling... Nothing I could do about it.. Didnt even think about trying to repair it.. Just scooped it up and put what I could in my spare parts box...

Ouch!!. You are absolutely right, it's not the model, it's the time and effort. I've had a few minor repairs to conduct, but nothing disasterous yet...(he says knocking on wood and crossing his fingers). Awfully sorry about that.

I can't tell for sure, but a lot of it looks like things came unglued. A bit of filing and you should be abel to reassemble it. The worst looking part is the front axel that appears to have snapped. Given that this is going to be in a dio, that can be salvaged. You should be able to superglue the broken parts together and affix the truck to the base. There will be relatively little pressure on that one spot. Of course, sadly, you won't get it to this contest, but there will be more shows.
The damage really doesn't look as bad as a certain corner in a French town being occupied by Falshirmjager in support of an armored car and Pz I command tank that got nuked by a motorcycle helmet. #:-)
