I'd lean towards CMOT's assessment but go a little further and say it looks like part of the auxiliary muffler/exhaust for a Pzkpfw IV for the turret traverse. Hard to say for sure though since the picture isn't that clear.

Thats very interesting Bill-A friend of mine said that he thinks he remembers seeing it in connection with a turret!

Maybe this? The red elipses show a possibility:

The part in Bob's graphic is what I was referring to...it's the exhaust/muffler for the auxiliary motor used for the turret traverse on the Pz IV. Picture's worth a thousand words as they say...

Glad to help, let me know if I've won anything..... lol!

ps do we know which kit the part in Wayne's post came from? I think that was the other part to his initial question. My hunch is he's scratchbuilding a Millenium Falcon..... hahahaha

Is that right Wayne?

I'm still pretty sure it's from an exhaust or muffler system of some kind - thought we were on the right track with the Panzer IV, oh well... It's worthy to consider that kit manufacturers don't always model their parts exactly as the real thing should be (shocking...!!!) so it still could be from a Panzer IV kit, just not a very accurate one....

Plus the part in your pic above with the red arrow looked different than the dark green one in your first post, I didn't see the small bit protruding from the middle of the main tube. That may help in the identification.

Also, here's a Yahoo Group that's dedicated itself to Scratchbuilding the Millenium Falcon. It lists a lot (maybe not all) of the kits and parts used by the model builders for the Star Wars movies. You may find what you need here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MFalcon/

As a general rule green sprues from Tamiya are going to be an American, British, or Russian vehicle. So my next guess would part of an Allied wheeled vehicle and I’m sticking with exhaust or air tank.

Some things can also be discounted by the process of elimination too. As the original filming model would have been constructed in 1976 or so, no 'modern' vehicles would have had their kits used ie M1's, Leclercs, T-80's, Humvees, etc. We're talking vintage kits here from the early to mid '70's like Airfix, old Tamiya, Bandai and the like.
