Hi guys! Just wanna show you what's on the bench right now.
This is DML's T-34/85 Premium Ed kit. Very nice and bang for the buck I must say.
Crew from Miniart's T-70M Late.
Assembly and before painting...
What I need to convert it to OT-34/85...
Replaced all grab handles with wire. All ready for painting and priming...
Scratched engine deck louvers...
Painted tank and handbrushed Berlin white stripes using white oils...
The hexagonal + cross white strip is purely artistic approach. Haven't seen a T-34 with both the hex strip and cross strip together.
What should be the color of these louvers? I'm guessing rusty metal. Ideas?
Up next: Figure painting, decal work, wash and weathering and it's off to deploy in battle.

Looks good to me but I have to say I think the Green is a Tad light have seen some painted that way in a AFV Modeler back a few years but to me to light a Green.
Also I am a stickler for straight lines.
sorry Ralph but that is the way I am.
Overall pretty decent

Hi Ralph
Looks good. Looks like a nice kit with good turret structure.
A couple of questions since I am no expert and some things are new to me:
I thought only the T-34/76 was used for flame trower conversions? Also T-34/85?
I thought the Berlin marking was only the cross and the line around the turret. There was also a line running back over the hull?
Thanks for sharing

Jeff, be it light or dark, I've seen photos of various shades. Soviet tanks of that time had no standard green unlike their Western Allied counterparts. I chose a light color because most of my previous Soviet tanks were quite dark. Will try to rework that white stripes.
The past issued T-34/85 UTZ model has this as an option so is the new T-34/85 with bedsprings. So I'm sure there's still /85 with flamers.
Actually, the manual stated that one of the color options has the stripes running from the front to rear. I chose that one and then added the hex and cross strips, which were the real artistic touch

OK, thanks for getting back so quickly.
Interesting with the flamers on T-34/85s.
I also go the artistic license way sometimes if it looks better or is more fun.
Looking forward to see more

I like the white stripes done the way you did. It gives them a hurried application to them as if the tank was rushed into use. The asbe color does look a ittle light, but after weathering ou never know. Nice work so far, I cannot wait to see how it all comes out.

hey very cool!
I'm building the same kit right now, and am about to get to the stage where I need to do the fuel drums. Any potential pitfalls that you may have encountered doing yours?
I a little concerned about how I'll fix them to the hull as it appaears that the contact surface is just 4 little PE "legs"

Okay Ralph but I did not mean to redo them just I like Straight lines.
Your build is a good one.
And the color have seen them painted that color just I guess I am a dark color person.
Good job.

Ah yes. This is the hardest part IMO. The straps doesn't even connect to the ends. What I did with mine is to bend the "legs" into a "U" and glue them to the hole. Maybe inaccurate, but that's how I did it. The end product looks like it's just glued to the hull. You may wanna fill up the hole and glue the legs perpendicular to the hull so that it's a bit raised. I really wish DML had also included the plastic fuel drum holders like their previous non-premium-ed -85.
Also, attaching the small rear fuel drums could be confusing. I suggest rolling the straps first on a cylindrical container so that you mould the shape of the straps first. don't even know what's the use of that metal rod that had been included!
Oh btw, don't even bother putting up two grab handles on the sides of the tank on the side which has two fuel tanks. They will not fit. Just remove the inner grab handles and you're all set.

No, actually, it's too crooked even to be painted by the crew in a hurry Ofcourse, they tried their best to atleast make it straight.

Hi guys! Been a while. Finally the white oil has dried so it's time to finish it.
Decals had been placed so are washes. I'll just need to seal it with a dull coat and do the final weathering.
And the figure...

It's almost done! ;D
Hmm... the dust ain't that visible. Must be the photo.
Look at the commander, he's happy to see his tank getting done.
A little pastel weathering and minor drybrushing and it's off the factory.
