Why should one have interior in a tank when one just put the hull over it? Or do you cut a bit of the tank so you can see through?

I've never "drilled" holes in the hulls, but if I'm going to leave the hatches open I always try to do as much as I can in terms of interiors, not overdoing, limiting myself to what you can see through the hatches. I've got on the workbench a Leopard 1A2 with scratchbuilt interiors. If you go to my site ( www.cavalleriaitaliana.it ) and select from the menu at the bottom of the page "Ricerca" (search) and type in M113 and press the "Cerca button" in the results you will see the interiors of an M113 I finished quite a lot time ago. I enjoyed myself so much scratchbuilding the most part of the interiors, than even if I keep the rear door closed I'm pleased to know that it has got full interiors...

If you have open hatches, interior detail becomes useful. If the AFV is buttoned up, then the interior can remain untouched and ignored. Then again, even if the the hatches are closed, it can be good to practice building interiors by going ahead and putting it in. If it turns out well, leave the hatches open, if not....

I am doing an Abrams with an interior right now and I will be leaving the CWS off so that you can see inside the turret and I will make it so that the turret can be set on a display base when I want to show off the hull interior. I think just rudimentary stuff is okay if you can't see inside very well, like DML did on it's abrams, and if it is shut up, then no interior should be done at all. If I do an interior it is done so that I can show off my work.

I just saw (FSM recently) a diorama that had the interior fully done and the top hull was simply placed on the lower hull. If you wanted to display it 'hull off' you could.
Personal preference, sometimes its for no other reason than 'cuz I could'

If you can see inside, there should be something there to make a complete model. If you can't, there's no reason to add extra detail. It's a question of realism. I have a couple vehicles on the bench nearing completion. Both are buttoned up and there's not a like of detailing or paint inside the hull or turret. I have two Academy M-3's whose interiors will be complete and detailed because they will be left opened. Or they'll be left opened because the interior is detailed.

If i want to include an interior i usually leave the hull "unglued" so i can take it off to show what is inside. to me a tank looks so much more complete with a full interior. What i will normally do is build one tank with a complete interior and one without so that i can glue that one together. That way you get a good idea what the "real" one would look like.
