Has anyone built this kit? If so, what did you think about it? Any major issues or problems to deal with? I haven't done a Revell(Germany) kit yet and am wondering about the quality.

Thanks

Yes I have built it. Used a PE set and some minor scratchbuilding to update it. I liked it and it went togheter without any big issues.

I have built it as well. It goes together without any real issues. Looks pretty good when done too. Look out for the tracks though. Mine were really soft and fell apart within a few months of building it. Unfortunately, there are no AM tracks for it. I had to put Leopard 1 tracks on it. They are close, but not exactly the same.

Here is mone. (Sorry for the crappy pic. Old digicam.)

Good luck.

it's an okey kit..i have built mine out of the box. small parts are kinda chunky with few details. but it's a good kit and it's the only game in town. a litlle detailing and scratchbuilding would really help enhance the kit.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Gino, nice looking build. Weathering looks great. You say the tracks were soft and fell apart? Are they rubber band type or link?

Thanks.

much like the others said, a little heads up on the tracks.. they kinda snap really quick if you extend them too much.. maybe the alcohol content on the acrylic paint that i sprayed into it somewhat lessened the rubber tracks' elasticity or something... but its a very nice kit.. possibly one of revell's best in 1/35 scale.. i think its the only one in 35 scale..

enjoy your build!

That's strange about the tracks and I'll try to be gentle with them. It looks like it builds into a pretty impressive beast though so I'm still looking forward to it. I'm glad to hear that it doesn't have any major issues too. Thanks again to everyone for their input.

I've built the Revell Germany PzH 2000. I though it was a great kit. I loved the aluminum barrel. The tracks went on with no problems. It's impressive, sitting on the shelf next to my Paladin. People come to my house and say, "Oh my God, what is that huge thing?"

Mine is in the painting stage now. I'd say REALLY watch out for those tracks. They are too soft and saggy. Putting them on is no problem but any kind of enamel thinner immediately melts and cracks them, acyrilic thinner stiffens them and cracks them. If they sit still for some time they stick to the surface they are on, when you are lifting the vehicle they tend to snap and break.

Otherwise, some of the parts are too simplistic, but no major fit problems as stated. The only place I had to use some putty was the muzzle break and the gun housing(the piece that the barrel fits into, I hope this is the term). Other than that, good fit, fast assembly.

Last thing I can say is price, if you are price sensitive. Over here it is slightly more expensive than a Dragon premium kit, so you might think if it is worth for a kit that has soft details and horrible vinyl tracks, while there is only an aluminium barrel as an extra goodie.

Isn't it odd? Other threads about the PzH 2000 have been very uncomplimentary about the details. Personally, I think it looks cracking, and I'm looking forward to seeing all the knobbly bits after I've dry-brushed them.

That's very interesting about the tracks - I've read that they have "problems", but this is the first time I've seen what they are. I may try a coat or two of Klear before doing anything. Since that's the penicillin of the modelling world - cures all ills - it may seal the rubber enough to stop it and the paint eating each other.

Price - I agree, it does seem a bit steep (though Trumpeter's new Grille really takes the biscuit for sheer eff-me pricing). But that's what eBay is for! I paid less than half for mine, including postage. These days, if I pay full price for a kit, I think I've been mugged...

Sean, what is "Klear"? Is it a clear varnish or some king of household cleaning material like Future?

Well, I tend to underrate the Panzerhaubitze 2000 in 1/35 scale, as I have also seen and built Revell's Marder1A3 in the same scale. Marder's price is better, its details are much more crisper and its tracks, though again on the soft side, are much better as well(Mine tolerated every kind of thinner and they still hold after months, no cracks or anything). I feel like I was mugged when I started building the Panzerhaubitze 2000, why such difference in quality when I pay more, for God's sake? Still, the Panzerhaubitze is so mighty and cool that when finished it is a great eye catcher.

Hope with the increasing topics about the Panzerhaubitze, we see some of them rolling around in Armorama. Mine is being prepared for the "Father and Son" campaign and hopefully will be completed within a month.

It is the UK version of "Future". Made by the same company.

Thanks Eddie. Pity, we don't have neither over here. Future is sometimes sold by some modellers but with expensive prices and in little amounts, too expensive to dip tracks into

expensive? The kit costs 20 euros in my LHS, a typical Dragon kit costs 40 euros. I don't think it's expensive for a kit with alu barrell

Maybe I was just lucky

Twenty euros??? It's listed at £27 here, which is about double that - ! Looks like I may have to take a trip to the Netherlands some time ...

What?!? 20 Euros? For that I can only buy Zvezda kits or old Tamiyas here. No way. The Panzerhaubitze 2000 costs around 52 US Dollars (35-36 Euros) , while a Dragon premium kit is sold for 30 Euros (older generation Dragons are sold at 20-25 Euros). I think I have every right to call it expensive in relation to what I can purchase with the same amounts. Yes, it includes a huge aliminium barrel, but being 4 Euros more expensive it is not better than any kit with MagicTracks, PE, metal barrel and extra goodies.

It might be time to visit my aunt in Netherlands

Wow, sorry to hear about the prices you guys are paying on the other side of the pond. I paid $30 US for mine from Great Models.

As for the model itself, I'm about 1/3 of the way done and so far it's been a fun build. No fit problems and the putty is still in the drawer. I did get the Eduard PE set to try and spruce up the details a little. For $10 I couldn't pass it up.

I'm getting more and more concerned though about the tracks with every thread I read. I think I'll try Sean's suggestion of giving them a couple coats of Future before painting.

I had a discussion with the owner of my LHS about that price (because it was so low). The guy himself also did not get it why the kit was so cheap, but after our talk he did not increase the price of it. It seems that the problem for you guys is not Revell, but transport costs, duties/taxes, the expensive Euro these days or something else.

Yea its like $30 here in the US. This subject keeps coming up over and over but it's completely ignored by the aftermarket, when you can get 4 different sets for any one-off paper panzer model. I think Eduard made a PE kit for it, but for some reason its long gone from the main website. Mine's been sitting in the box ready for some better parts for 2 years now. I was thinking about trying to cheat M1 magic tracks from Dragon kit-not exactly a perfect match-but better then the gummy-bear ones that come with it. The Bigfoot tracks are actually pretty close in style, and with skirts you only need to do 2/3rds of the tracks. I keep forgetting but tonight I'll play around with a set from the AIM kit. The Pzh2000 is an awesome machine, maybe one day Dragon will make one up. Cary, where did you find the Eduard set??

If I can find the Eduard PE and get the tracks to work, I may have to finally build it, I can scratch the smaller details pretty easilly. Are the tracks used on any other modern AFV's like an A5 that may have a set??

Kevin, I got the PE set from either Great Models or Squadron but it doesn't look like either one have it now.

Yea, someone posted the Eduard stock number here on another PzH thread but it doesn't even show on the main E website anymore. Its like the only kit Eduard discontinued. You can get a bunch of stuff for the smaller version though, go figure.

Maybe Eduard thought "With that tracks no one will really work hard on that kit, much less bother with PE" The smaller version is cool, the amount of detail is sufficient for the scale and thankfully has L&L tracks.

Revell does not like 1/35 people... Proof? Compare the number and diversity of their 1/72 offerings with 1/35 offerings... Dear Revell, we try our best to like you, please like us back.
