How about a Kubelwagen for the photographer's, it's only a suggestion. And there's no motorcycle's in the column either.
I love half-tracks and Tiger tanks. And Lancaster bombers. I model to please myself not others. I may not be the best of modellers, but I'm happy with what I end up with.

Tons of ballast is all I can say about the groundwork. I would love to see more figures around the column, with such a sight and a large column there would be more figures.

its only when you see pictures like this you fully realise how darn big this kit really is.
As Scott says it needs a few more figures, i would also like to see that ever it is that delivers the shells to site

Great job! that thing is massive! congrats. I would agree with the figures. it needs some more. and maybe a few more halftracks or trucks to kind of standardize the clolumn.

Darren & Scott, I've taken your suggestions seriously and ordered a set of Dragon's Feldgendarmerie with dogs for guard duty, 4 more crew for the Dora, 10 more soldiers for the column, 5 high ranking officers being photographed in front of the gun, an Italeri KFz 15 Horch staff car and a BMW with side-car.
Mike, I've sort of run out of room in the column to add more of the larger vehicles, but yes, another truck carrying a heap of ammo crates and gear would have been nice.
.......... also remember, this base mates up against the Savastopol railhead dio and thats 'as busy as a one legged man in an ass kicking competition'.

I still can hardly believe how big it is. How much paint did you use? The worlds stock of Panzer Gray must have taken a hit.

Hey mate,
Good job so far can't wait to see it with the ballast done.
I have just two comments to make;
1) I know you said about the vegetation but I would add some grass in between and around the tracks as very little traffic would disturb it here.
2) For me the panzer 1 command tank and the kettenkrad doesn't gel together very well, maybe lose the kettenkrad and add the ammo truck you wanted.

That will be an awesome-looking dio when it's finished.
Hope you're not planning on moving house any time soon!!
My only (relatively minor) criticism is that I feel the whole thing as it stands is a bit too "linear" - in other words the vehicles are all in a nice straight line running more or less parallel to Dora.
I know you're making a convoy, but try parking a couple of vehicles off to the side and at angles to Dora.
But it's looking impressive, it really is.
I don't need you - sixty feet of bridge I can pick up almost anywhere.

My fear is that with the Dora piece in place, one will not be able to see anything behind it. This is going to be one that requires a 360 walk-around to view.

Great looking and truly stunning diorama. I think the two dioramas will fit together well. However, as already mentioned you should allow for a 360 view of the finished diorama.

It measures out to about 6 foot long and as for firing it, compressed air behind a wet wad of paper might work!

Darn, that's one giant guy there. I have a comment which is though small , paramount: when this guy fired it was on a curved track in order to be able to aim the beast. Also this track was sunken :

That's not a bad idea at all. Much of the German army was still horse drawn of course and the Italeri (ex-ESCI) Horse Drawn Convoy along with the Tamiya Horse Drawn Field Kitchen strolling past this giant piece of motorized overkill would be amusing, historically accurate and offer an interesting commentary on the true state of mechanization in the German army.

Now the horses would be a very interesting contrast. There are also some mounted calvary troops, but I cannot rmember who makes those.
I love how it all looks thus far. Everytime I check the progres all I can say is "WOW".
With such a large set up it is hard to say how much is too much. But I love the progress so far.
But, horses would be just the ticket.

Thanks Charles & Mark, I did toy with that idea but wasn't sure if a mechanized arty division mixed with a horse-drawn one. I have a put a horse-drawn field kitchen on the other half and came to the conclusion that I really suck at painting horses. I must have at least 10 of the beasts surounding my property, but still can not get the colouring right. I am still seriously thinking of adding a truck to the column, spent a lot of the day putting together the gear to fill it.
BTW. the dio will be 360 degree viewable.
Jim Rae, in Australia, we call house extensions "a shed" and I have one dedicated to display.
