Hi !
Firstly, I know the problem : everything is too clean...but I'll fix that in the near future - with pigments.
Secondly, it is a too evident border between the road and the grass, and also the grass is...lika a grass carpet-no stones or earth.
Thirdly, it is 1/72.
You can laugh now ! It is the first one !

There it is

*note : I won't make the same mistakes again

Don't worry about it. We all have a first diorama. That's why we're here to ask and get better. I always have things I wish I had done better or different on every diroama (every project actually).

Ok -you've mentioned a couple of things you would change next time.

How about the good things, the composition is very good, lots of details everywhere. There is no 'dead space'. Everything is 'finished'(no rough edges to anything. There are extra details even in the small scale - tank tracks, benches, etc.
For 1/72 the figures are nicely detailed right down to rank on the colar boards.

Good job, lets see #2 grown

I'll post number two in the weeks that follows ; I finished it on the last day of June - waiting for pictures to be ready.
This one, with Poland, I finished in September last year.

Nice scene. Your own constructive comments are accurate, I'd say. It's something I always have trouble with, too (see the Sicily dio I just listed here). My first dio of last year had its share of errors as well.

The only thing I'd add is that the water is too blue. Looks more like the ocean in the Bahamas than a small stream in Poland. So refreshing, those soldiers should all be jumping in instead of fighting!

Nice start.

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself Alex. I like the general layout and composition and you have a fair bit of activities well spread out but not too confusing at least not to me. 1/72nd is not as easy as some might think. Trying to fit the scale of the groundwork to the figures and tanks is not easy and you've done a decent job of it.

From what I've learnt from my mistakes with 1/72 is that everything needs a lot more contrast to bring out the details. No worries as I'm very sure you'll get better.

Don't be so hard on yourself dude! Yes the dio is too clean like you had mentioned, but slodder and the others are right. Your composition is very good, the dio is balanced without being asymetrical, you've already ventured into water and there is alot of little details to catch the eye. For a 1st dio.............your work in the futre is going to be outstanding!

It looks very good, particularly in this small scale. I agree with earlier comments.

And also additional comment - and please considered it a hint for future projects, not the criticism - current understanding of the German caouflage history indicates that all armor used in Poland in 1939 (and also in France in 1940) was painted in two color camouflage of dark grey and dark bown. Single color dark grey camouflage was introduced in second half of 1940 after the campain in France.

Camouflage...I'll remember that .
I appreciate you for appreciating the good parts too .
Can't wait for the photos of the second one to be ready ... maybe in one week - two weeks time, I don't know .

This is definitely much better than my first attempt. Mercifully, no evidence of which survives...

Just something to watch out for in future diorama's, is where a vehicle has come from, and where it is going. I.e. in this case the Pzr III looks to have come over the bridge, which is both to narrow, and not strong enough to allow the Pzr III to pass.
Your figures are very good btw. I wish I could paint detail in that scale.

Cheers

No, the Panzer 3 came over the river :

Btw, I painted the soldiers's buttons and other details with the needle and the pick.

The thought process behind the Pnzr crossing the river vs. the bridge and then doing the tracks and turn mean you're definitely on the right track with diorama building. Attention to detail and research are key. Well done.

I experimented how a tank turns and I made the tracks exactly as the result of the experiment showed . Hope they are correct, phisically speaking.

Hey, don't sweat it, I think it's not bad expecially for the first one. The vehicles and figures are excellent. One thing that comes to my mind, it looks very pristine. Battlefields are very gritty. You need to weather it a little and make it look really messy! Then you will have a real believable diorama!

Hello Alex

From what I have seen, dioramas in 1/72 scale are not the easiest to do. This is a very good attempt, so well done!

I have to disagree with you.
All German armor during the Polish and French campaign was painted in pure dark grey.

Very nice first dio
I would suggest the combination of washes-dry brush on your vehicles and the ground, building etc. for more contrast in order to bring out the details
