Hi guys,
Recently I got a Tamiya Sd. Kfz.251/1 Ausf. D kit and would like your help with it. I haven't start yet the building process, even though I am really nervous about it, I can wait to start doing it. For now I am gathering the data. I was looking also on the Internet/Google but not too much info there. Anybody built one? I am looking for some tips, how did you paint it, which steps were the hardest/trickiest, if PE parts were used etc. Hoping that I didn't ask for too much, I am anxious to get your response.
Kind regards,
Sebastian

Sebastian,
I did build one not long after I come back to the hobby, it's a real nice build. The only thing I find difficult to do at that time was the line up for the sotrage bins, but it owes to the limited skills I had then rather than the kit itself, other than that it's an easy build.
Caution need to be take to glue down the tracks to the road wheels. I used superglue and just clamped them till it set.
You'll like it. HTH.

Hi Sabastian,
It`s been 3 or 4 years since I built the 251/1D but it was a fun build. The parts fit well and it was relatively easy once most of the mold release points were filled and sanded which really were`nt that numerous. I did use Eduard`s set # 35113. It added a few good replacement parts and a lot of missing detail and I used modelkasten tracks. If (or when) I build another I am going to use AFV`s new wheel & track replacment set #35043 for the 251. The tracks are some of the best rubber tracks i`ve seen and the replacment undercarriage uses resin with nicely detailed plastic wheels.

I have built this kit a couple of years ago but made a total mess out of it then I`m now 'restoring' it
rusty Hanomag Progress
I want to say that it is a nice kit but in those days I was not so serious in modeling so I was the one that made it a bad model :-)

Sebastian,
Here's a very fine article on doing "everything" to the Tamiya 251/1 D. I thought that it was a very impressive article.
Detailing the 251/1 D
The article also has a fairly extensive list of reference materiel for the project.
Enjoy.

Thank you very much guys for the helpful info that you gave me. I'll start reading and learning from it. I also intend to write an article on how I built the 251/1 Ausf.D after it's finished. I plan to take pictures during the process, as well as detailed notes on how I did this or that.
Kind regards,
Sebastian

hey panzer fan,
if you get the opportunity, get the book on Hanomags from Ryton, contact RZM to see if they still have any copies left.

Hi Panzer-Fan!
Here is a very helpful site, if you want to do research (interior!) although there are a lot of other variants not only the 251/1.
