Between 11th and 20th of October 1941, the Grossdeutschland infantry regiment was ordered to contain any attempts by the Red Army to escape the encirclement west of Bryansk .

There it is.

Note : Title coming soon .

It might be the quality of the photo's, but the ground looks like it's covered in shiny black oil.

Hi Alex

It is a little difficult to see due to the quality of the photos, but the ground seems unusually dark and covered with water?

No...it's the quality... . About the road...yes, it's quite similar to a muddy river ... anyway... I tried to make a "heavily muddied" road and I obtained this .

I'll try to get a better digital camera...but this won't happen soon because they are quite expensive here in Romania .

Several comments.

Firstly, most scenes set out to tell a story, which is why we also give it a title. This just appears as a series of objects dotted around a baseboard.

Why do you have a relaxed atmosphre over by the well, yet it appears one person has a gun out waving it about, no enemy in site. Bit of a contridication.

The ground could do with more variation, if was as wet and muddy as you suggest you'd see more tracks from the vehicles.

Also why if it is such poor conditions are the people so lightly dressed, another contridiction.

Take a look at what this person has done to simulate very muddy conditions.

Try to obtain reference when doing a scene. that does not just mean historical reference to the place and date you have chosen but reference of how a track looks well used, what puddles look like, how vehicles are effected by these coditions, the weathering they'd experience.

Use Google and change your search from site to image based and then type in what you want to see.

Use your eyes when out and about to observe things, everyday stuff like how dirt gathers in corners, what happens to objects in the real world.

Most important, enjoy yourself.

Happy Modelling

Well...that soldier was guiding the sdkfz 261 ... with his gun ... (I couldn't find a 1/72 soldier pointing out something with his hand ).
And the people are lightly dressed because in 1941, the Russian weather caught the Germans by surprise .

I could barely make the sdkfz 261's traks...because I made the road out of burnt sugar...which hardly binds ... I had to fix it with Noch Water Drops .
The soil's colour really varies...it's the digital camera's fault .

Anyway ... how would you rate my dio, on a 1 star to 5 stars scale ? - don't worry, I won't upset ! (for example : 0.3 stars ).

Hi Alex

Forgive me if I make the wrong assumption, but I'd say you were quite young, and I don't want to knock your enthusiasm.

Why not modify the guy with the gun, remove it and make him pointing instead.

Sugar.... I've never heard of using sugar before.

I'd use this site and the others on the web to research how to do things, I know that's what I'm doing at the moment. Struggling badly with figure painting using acrylic paints !!

I'll give your enthusiasm ten out of ten but I don't want to make a judgement on your modelling capabilities, it's something you should do when comparing your scene to the others in the various site galleries.

Don't be put off by what you see, be inspired, I know I am. I may never be half as good as the ones you see but I'll try, and I'll make sure I have fun and enjoy it along the way.

Happy Modelling

Alan

Alex,
To ask people to give your work a rating is not the right thing. If you liked what you did then great. However... look at the other dios on this forum and see what you can do to make the next one better. The guy with the pistol is leading the tracked vehicle... through what? The area is wide open.
