I have read references which show the colors used as being olive drab and green. In the B & W pics, the darker color appears to be black. HTH!

I remember reading something recently that one of the US armored divisions, I want to say the 3rd, had black bands added to their standard olive drab color.

I found that reference to black being used on Shermans. The site http://www.usarmymodels.com/MANUFACTURERS/Italeri/italeri225.html has this to say about modeling the Italeri Sherman.

Go with black camo bands of paint as used by the 3rd Armored Division.

That site, www.usarmymodels.com is a pretty good source of information on modeling the "good guys." They have just added a section on Shermans that is decent.
