May I ask you how do you achieve that metallic look? Do you drybrush with a metal / grey color, or is it preshading?
Thanks Peter!!!
I'll try to explain the different steps leading up to the way it looks in the pics...
1 Basecoat using Vallejo Model Air black.
2. Applying the green in cloudpatterns spraying thinly towards edges.
3. A wash with Artist Oils, black and raw umber mixed with turpentine
covering the entire model. Letting it dry for 20 minutes then doing
some irregular patterns with the same wash but wiping off most
of it from the brush so it's only damp to create more life in the paint.
4. Airbrushing dust with a few different light brown Vallejo Model Air
paints. The tracks also gets the same dusting with the airbrush.
5. A wash with Vallejo Model Color (not air) black mixed with a lot
of water to tone down the airbrushed dust and to recreate the
depth since the dusting makes it look slightly flat. The tracks are
treated with the same wash.
6. Detail painting of the stowage and tools.
7. Further dusting of tracks, wheels and lower parts of the vehicle
using pigment powders.
Left to do is some more detail painting and some highlights which
I do by using white artist oil which I put on a piece of newspaper so
the oil in the paint soaks away for about 20 minutes and then by
using a flat brush I carefully bring out the highlights. It's important
to remove almost all of the paint from the brush otherwise it will
be too much highlights. The good thing about using artist oils for
this is that it is transparent and does not dry at once so I have a
chance to work with it for a while.
Best regards
