Hi guys,
I'm building Trumpeter's AS-90, and am wondering if anyone can tell me if they all had the stowage basket on the top of the turret.
Anyone who had built the flyscreen and badly molded plastic one included in the kit will probably know why I'm asking - I'll be polite and call it "unconvincing"
I have had very little luck finding good pic's of the real thing, even in the current conflict, so any help with reference sites would be much appreciated. I have found one pic without the basket, but it is being assembled in front of it's transport ship, so maybe the basket's detatchable?
With the lack of any photo-etch alternative, if I can do without the basket I will....
Thanks.
Tim

BRNO, go check out Accurate Armour and get there update set!!!! They have an update set for that AS90 and it was easy for them seeing that Trumpeter made an exact copy of AA's resin kit. I'd recommend it here is a link to the site www.accurate-armour.com . I aslo say go ahead and buy direct for 2 reasons 1. You'll get your stuff quicker!! and 2. Unless you live in Hong Kong you won't get it cheaper. good luck stug
P.S. I just checked the site for myself the bin is in photo etch on the AA update for both versions of the AS90, and there alot of beatiful resin bit to improve the hack job trumpeter did that peice of equipment!!! stug

Hi Tim, Hi Steve,
I can definately recommend Accurate Armour they are worth the money and effort IMHO.
However, I was chatting to MrFitz last night who said that he had some problems with their kit (Can't remember which).

Thanks stug, Martin.
I checked out AA's site and the full set might be a bit of a waste, as everything else on my kit is already built ( and mostly well-enough moulded, save for a couple of bits that just don't fit without "modification" ), but I do have Trupeter's Challenger II to do next, so AA's roadwheel set will be worth looking into

From my research the bins were added as the vehicle went into service - while building my kit I found photos both with and without.

Hi, I built mine with some scale scenics mesh and strip styrene. It turned out OK, but then most of it is hidden with stowage. I'll try and link a pic here, but if it doesn't work, its in the member gallery.
Cheers

I worked on these at the place where they built them many years ago.
I can confirm that no stowage baskets were present on top of the turrett when they left the plant, only the two down each side.

the top basket are more than likely unit mods these were fitted to signal rovers years ago and the mod has stuck in the Army we get a magazine called Kit all drawn out in cartoons
these contain upgrades that have been put forward by the troops and like wise people they will often show extra detail on fixings engines loads of stuff really

Hello one and all,
first, I have seena review from a gentleman who built both the AA AS-90 and the trumpter one. In a very detailed way, he said that he does not believe that Trumpeter copied the AA kit any more than Tamiya-DML-Italeri have copied their M1 series vehicles. I suppose that when you make a model there are bound to be some similiarities. This line of thinking has also been applied to the Challenger II kit. It looks like Trumpeter just decided the world needed these kits in plastic, and to be honest, they are not as accurate as, er, Accurate Armor's kits. This may explain why there are problems with using the update parts from AA onto the Trumpeter kit...they are NOT the same kit afterall, and I do not believe that the AA people did any changing to the parts.
Also, I believe Eduard has a PE set out or on the way that has the basket in question in PE...have to check up on that though...
