Hi Guys,

A few update pics on the 105mm. Saw the post on the pistol port, not going to change it at this stage.

Cheers

Al-- let us know how the worms taste. The model is nice. I don't do Firefly vehicles but I like your weathering.
thanks

Hi DJ,

Worms were great, I particularly like the big fat juicey ones .

Thanks for looking and your comments, makes posting the pics worthwhile.

Cheers

Hi Al, thats looking nice. Did you use a converion set or not. If not how did you make the surround for the filler cap on the rear deck 'that isn't normally there', I would like to know as I currently have a 1b on the go but can not work out how to do this, Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks it's been fun and I got a fairly good kit from a previous disaster. I scratched the rear deck, not perfect but not too bad for me. The curve around the extra fuel cap came from a unused piece in the Firefly Kit, spur A part 15/16 (can't actually read the part No lol) and I filed/cut out the centre bit and replaced it with a filler cap. It's not quite round enough so I added a little bit of milliput to one end but it does the job and the conversion cost nothing which was a major plus.

Deck was made form Plastic card and the top raised section from L beam but I was lucky enough to have a spare top cover for the vent underneath which I'd made from mesh although you can't see it. The four rivets on either side were cut from plastic rod.

If you don't have the spare part the only other suggestion I can make is mount the filler cap and cut/bend a small piece of plastic card around it.

I still need to find add some grousers to the rear deck. I replaced the rear engine panel with a spare form the Italeri kit and added some side bars from plastic strip. Periscope guards are from Brad's home made design, again not 100% but good enough for my purpose.

You'll need to cut and alter the cleaning rods, as they were a stacked arrangement but again I just cut off two from the flat set you get and mounted one on top. They sit inside/on top of a very distinctive rectangle and I made that from the plank for the front and just cut it to size so that it gives the distinctive shape. Round air filters came from a spare Italeri kit and I added a new gun lock from a 75mm, just widened the top end but unless you're going to set the gun in it no one could tell the difference.

I didn't have a set of solid road wheels, so the back has just been filled in with mud lol, lol, tracks are indi ones form Dragon with duckbills and I added a couple of retaining pins to the front shackles but they need a small bar added if I can fashion one small enough.

If you're doing a Polish one they also mounted smoke throwers on the RHS of the turret. I don't know if this particular vehicle had them but I might add a set for interest.

Cable came form Accurate Armour.

As usual I got lots of help form folks, so thanks Rick, Glyn and Al Bowie, plus anyone else I've forgotten to mention. If you need any reference stuff let me know, I gathered up quite a lot. Pistol port thingi came up after the event so I'll leave it as is as the decals are on.

I'll add a No 19 radio set to the inside of the turret plus the idea of some fittings as with two hatches it's quite empty looking.

Hope that helps. I'd like to do a Canadian version of this one to some time.

Cheers

Al

Nicely done IB. Excellent weathering and your "mods" are very well done. As for the pistol port, never say never with a Shermie! Looking forward to your Canuck version.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the feedback. Saw the original pic on the pistol port after the event - sound familiar .

It only turned out Polish because I had the decals sitting, but it makes a nice change and they are badly under represented.

Cheers
