The bogey wheels have a line down the middle of them. Are these mold lines and should be removed?

If so is there a quick and easy way to do this, without having to scrape, fill with putty and sand?

The real wheel tires have seams too. However they should be nowhere near as prominent in 1/35. The easiest way to sand them is to pass a sanding stick over them. There are pics of Sherman wheels with chunks of rubber missing from rough treatment so you don't have to sand them to a smooth finish.

EDIT: here's a Canadian Sherman where you can see the seam on the spare wheels on the glacis front

Hi Pat,

Nice pic was that taken in Sicily/Italy? Any idea which unit?

Cheers

Hey Alan,
This photo's been posted before, maybe the last 3-4 months.
IIRC, it mentioned which Canadian unit it was.
I'll see if I can find out which CAR it is and will PM you.
Cheers

While the pic of the unused wheel on the Cdn sherman glacis shows the seam, I think if you were to leave all 12 roadwheels with seams in place, it would look like you just forgot to remove them -- that seam would be worn of very quickly on a wheel in use.

For 1/35, I'd remove the seam every time. My two cents

It looks like their are also seams on a 90 degree angle to the logitudinal seam. If you want to show one seam, you would need to add these as well IMHO. I'd say it's easiest to remove the kit seam and portray a "worn" wheel.

You know what there actually more to it than just the seam. As I started to work on the bogeys it turns out that the casting is off a bit. I.E. Even if you scrape the line off, that won't gauarantee an even(flat) surface. So ths means that I will have to first scrape off the line, then fix the uneveness with putty. (I am using the squadron green putty) Then I will have to sand it all down.

Uggg.... a lot of work. Any repacements out there? or any suggestions to make it easier?

South Alberta Regiment M4A4 taken in Normandy.

It's Major David Currie's tank "Clanky".

There are lots of replacement wheels out there and while you're at it you could replace the bogeys too as they lack details such as the bolts on the bottom of the truck and the on the track skid.
I would go for the Tasca set which gives you the bogeys and wheels.

I took a look at the TASCA web site and and I think I wil take your advice, and replace the whole bogey set. Also the tracks look really good too. I may just order a set of the track links and replace them as well.

Thanks,
GG
