Hi,
With Operation Iraqi Freedom well underway I can barely divert my eyeballs from the tube. I`ve been doing the more mundane modelling tasks like sanding and scraping parts, a little gluing, all in front of the TV. In fact, I just started Skybows` M38A1, and having already done their WC-51, it accured to me that they would make an excellant Humvee. Maybe it`s me and seeing all those differant variants roll by but it just makes sense to me that it would be the perfect time for someone to come out with a really good kit...soon.
Does anyone else feel this way or am I just sitting too close to my Ten-x.
God speed to all our troops!
Pete

Me too! I can't wait for it. I think that with Tamiyas M 1025 Hummer that the AM companies will give us just about every variant we would want.

I want that Gunner! I hope Tamiya was wise to mold him standing in the hatch with his hands on the MK-19 or M2! Not many model companies make figures that show them actually operating the equipment or weapons. As for the driver, is he seated and driving?
All I know is that Tamiya said two modern figures are included, a driver and a gunner. How modern and what are their poses is still unknown.

I still wonder why they selected this variant when the Academy M966/1025 (not perfect) is readily availble andmakes into a nice HMMWV (see Ed Geer's truck).
Some of the newer uparmored variants would be appreciated as well as a decent 4 door soft top set up (probably the most prolific variant).

Has anyone ever seen a kit of a Humvee that has a radio shelter on the back? I drove one in Desert Storm and I would like to build one.

Taking the Revell of Germany or Academy 2-door M998, adding the rear bumper found on other kits and scratchbuilding the S250 hut shouldn't be too difficult.

I've noticed AFV Club have released a Hummer but unsure what variant it is. It comes with a Mk 19 AGL and two Sth Korean crewmembers. Could it be adapted into a vehicle used by US special forces in Iraq?

No, it cannot. The rollbars are indeed offered by AM General, but the US Special Forces do not use this version.
I have two of these AFV Humvee kits. The resin is specifically tailored to the Academy Humvee although I'm sci-fi-ing it for the Tamiya Humvee, not caring for accuracy at all. The resin wheels are nice.
Besides ROC/ Taiwan, the Israeli Defense Force, and Jordan Special Ops uses these AFV Club rollbar Humvees, although I think Jordan may use one with an enlongated bar in the back. The IDF is a sure bet and the AFV Club Humvee with AGL can be used for IDF.
During the 1991 Gulf War, US Special Forces used M998s. Several books in the bookstores (LIFE magazine) shows this. The current US Special Forces use the Dumvee. A few modelers scratchbuilt Dumvees.
Sidenote: The Tamiya M1025 gunner stands in tip-toe and can't even rest both feet on the ground. Since my Humvee rollbar is all open, stnading on tip-toe looks a bit funny. An aftermarket or DML standing figure would work better.

Thanks Sabot for the comment about my M966. If anyone wants to view it, my user name is Manchu 34 click on "my photos" or click on my banner for additional photos of the M966 both complete and during construction.
As soon as I can convince the wife to let me buyit, I'll be getting the M1025.

No, that is the official AM General Special Forces version with Military System Group's MG mounts.
The US Special Forces use the Ground Mobility Vehicle, or "Dumvee" as you see in Iraq, which has more features than the AM General SF version.
