Hey everyone, I've been gone for a bit, but while I was gone, I finished my first (completed dio) . It is supposed to be a group of German soldiers taking cover behind a crashed German tank. It is set in Berlin, 1945. Hope you like it.
Oh, it's officially finished, but I still welcome suggestions for my next one.....
This is hard to see, but over by the smaller ruined building, hiding in the shadows, is as German machine gunner, taking cover behind a couple of crates and a barrel.

It looks pretty good, im assuming that it is 1/72 scale, one error though is that you said the that the tank has "crashed", however a King Tiger could easily plow its way through such a building, and the rubble patches look a bit to evenly distributed. But im just being picky. Overall it looks great and is a really good start, and I like the idea. The figures look pretty good aswell.
as usual good luck, keep it up

sorry, I should have mentioned, actually it is in 1/32 scale...... yes, I know the figures aren't well painted. I haven't been doing them for long though. I've only painted 8 figures in this scale so far, half of which are in this dio. On the tank crashing, you are right, and I should have thought of that before Sooo, let's just be subtle and say that the driver momentarily lost control, and plowed into it, then the crew had to abandon the tank because of mechanical problems. That would explain the situation, right?
Anyway, I also agree that the rubble piles look to .... orderly, part of the problem is that I work to quickly, without thinking logically.... and I also didn't want to cover up to much of the paving brick street ( which was, by the way, painstakingly carved out of a plaster sheet)
Those are great suggestions, keep' em comming

Hi there
I think the brick street is fantastic! can you elaborate a little more as to how you did it?
Thanks
Stuart

Sure, I basically just followed the insructions here, except I didn't do as much sanding and I didn't round off all the edges, so mine looks more like bricks then cobblestones. I gave the whole finished base a black spray coat. Then I painted lightly on top of that so that the black showed in the cracks. Oh, and I poured the plaster right into the picture frame, with a piece of plywood put into it to make a container to hold it. Hope that makes sense, and if you need a better explanation, I can try again.
Whoops, I forgot to post the link http://hfmodeling.kitmaker.net//features/1268
sorry about that, just copy and paste into your address bar........

I think you did a fine job on the figures, especially for just starting out! A lot better than mine ... I gave up long ago! Dioramas are great fun so stick to it!

Thanks everyone for the comments,
the glass in the window is cut up clear plastic packaging, like what most electronics, (cd players, ipods,) and lots of other stuff comes in. Just use some scissors to cut it up and it looks like broken glass panes. The glass in the picture frame is the same thing. The glass on the floor, is small pieces of the same material, plus some clear glitter, although, I'm not really sure I like the glitter or not.
