Hi Guys
I have decided that I would like to make a dio of british troops in Northern Ireland to kinda mark the end of Op Banner. Does anyone know where I can get some decent 1/35 figures of British soldiers from Northern Ireland or the Falklands (ie with the SLR rifle preffreably) Cheers. Nick

I know that Accurate Armour makes a Falklands era soldier with GPMG. If your looking for suitable FAL rifles, try to get an old Italeri kit of modern weapons, has 3. Donīt know about any others or if the Dragon kit of Modern British soldiers works for your porpouse.
Hope it helps.

Hi Nick,
The only ones that I know of is the old Airfix "Modern British Infantry". These have the SLR but are horrible plastic. The rifles really do have to be replaced.

Nick, the DML figures are 90's era GW1 Figs and are in Noddy Suits so that would preclude early periods. The tamiya British Stretcher party with SLR's or Sterlings from the italeri Modern Weapons set are a good alternative. If you want Mk III Helmets then get the original DML WW2 Commonwealth Infantry and if you want modern Mk VI(?) get the DML GW set or Acc Armour. Accurate armour do modern Brits also

Once again I see this curious idea of slinging the GPMG ammo belt "Bandolier fashion" across the body. Airfix did it too.
I was a Gimpy gunner for two years and this idea was considered totally dangerous, unusable, unsuitable and VERY unprofessional.
The ammo belt description is "Disintegrating Link". i.e. it was designed to come apart relatively easily... And did!
For just this exact reason the chances of the Ammo belt remaining in one piece was so low, and the chances of losing the ammo so high that it just wasn't done.
A 25 ( or 30, or 40 or sometimes even 50) round "belt" would be carried "loaded" and slung over the top of the gun with the remainder of the ammo in the rear Kidney pouches for the loader to get easy access to.
Slung across the body? No chance!

Tamyia did a set of stretcher bearers a while ago. I believe that they also came with the land rover ambalance. I think that, if you can find them, these figures, combined with the Italieri weapons set would be your best bet. It would require a fire amount of reworking the figures into new poses but they are already dressed and equiped for the part except for the lack of weapons. However, all the needed pouches are included.
There is a diaroma in the Encyclopidiea of Military Modeling of N. Ireland that I believe used these figures and it was very well done. I did a quick search of the web to see if I could find it, this is the best I could do.

Let me know if you can't find them, I have a set of the figures,

Tamiya did the figures from the ambulance set seperately, I think they are OOP now but i'm sure some stores still have them and I know they pop up on ebay regularly.
Heres the set at Netmerchants for Ģ4.49:

They're so cheap I reckon they're worth picking up even if you end up using only bits of them.
Have fun,
James
