Hi, I need your advice on the best kits of Japanese Infantry available in 1/35 or 1/32. I need them to make a historically accurate diorama showing a Japanese machine gun and crew in action in North Borneo, 1945. I am hoping of finding some figures in retreating, dead and in action poses.

I have seen the RPM 1/35 Taisho 3 Woodpecker kit, was this gun used in North Borneo and will it be suitable for my dio?

Hi Chas,

Tamiya did a kit in 1/35. Features 4 Japanese infantry in action poses, i'm sure a little work may be able to produce a machine gun team from them (IIRC two figures are crouching). Its OOP now but you can still get hold of it if you search around. Can't vouch for the quality though i'm afraid as I havn't built it.
Heres a link to a pic of the kit:TAMIYA

Airfix also do a kit in 1/32. This has been re-released recently but with all their problems again it isn't widely available. As with the Tamiya kit do a bit of searching and you should do ok. The airfix 'multipose' range are OK quality a bit of work will see them ok but the plastic is quite soft which is a pain in the [auto-censored] to file! This set includes a machine gunner though which should be some help.

Verlinden also do 2 kits:

VLS1
VLS2

Hope that helps you out.

Have fun!

Dragon also made a set of Japanese infantry in 1:35, IIRC.

I suppose I'll have to do some hefty conversions then,

Thanks
