Hi everyone, I want to start sculpting my own figures. I like to make everything myself, instead of just buying stuff then sticking it on a diorama. Can you tell me what I need to do this. Or will Apoxie Sculpt work?

Hi David
there are quite a few very experienced sculptors over on Historicus Forma who would be able to give you more advice.
from my point of view, i would start easy by first re-doing arms or legs on standard figure, just to get some practise.
i would also pick up the following books, which have all been a big help to me:-
1 - Conversion and scratch building of model figures by Andrea press
2 - sculpting and body language by euro modelismo
3 - Dynamic wrinkles and drapery by Burne hogarth
all are excellent in helping you learn to sculpt.
i also use the 1/35 Academy figures by FRIULMODELL as these are basically white metal frames that you can bend to shape and then sculpt over. I generally use Magic sculpt a it is easy to use and shape
Try michtoy for a lot of the products and books

Hey Dave,
Good to see you want to start sculpting!! It is very fun and very addictive, so be aware!
To get you started, read this thread:
Sculpting Ivan
It is a complete Step By Step of sculpting a 1/35th scale figure from start to finish. Im sure it will show you something to get you started, and probably will raise a lot of questions. Feel free to ask away, but the thread is a good starting point for sculpting reference.
Have fun!!

Maybe it would be a better idea if you first try some conversions in stock figures. Itīs a lot easier begin with simple projects and progressively attempt more difficult works.
This way you wonīt be so frustated by the first bad results -nobody gets his first figure right-.
At least this is the way most people use to get into sculpting figures.
Regards and happy modelling

Anders already posted the link I was thinking, but also take some time to browse the Timelines forums, some good info there:
http://www.timelinesforum.com/forums/index.php?
Apoxie Sculpt can be ordered direct from Aves: http://www.avesstudio.com/
Magic Sculp is very similar I find, and I'm pretty sure neither can be found at Michaels.

Hi Johan
I think you mean the ISBN number, which is:
84-95464-42-X
This is a reference number specifically for this book, hope this is what you were looking for as this is a truly excellent book, I reviewed it on this site a few months back, check it out in the review section.
Cheers
