Dragon has announced an M1025 w/Ask and Psyops loudspeaker and the announcement states that it also has the Highly detailed Long Range Advanced Scout Surveillance System (LRAS3.) What exactly is the LRAS3 and can it be applied/used on other versions of the HMMWV?

Ch-- it is an advanced type of ground radar. Mounted on a Hummer. I can send you a photo next week when I get back to the office. Try a Goggle search for the Army Weapon System Handbook 1999. It was a new acquisition about that time frame. Once again I can send you a photo if desired.

The LRAS3 isn't a ground radar. If I am not mistaken and I am sure smarter people than I will hopefully chime in if I mess this up. But the LRAS3 is an observation platform very similar if not the same as the TIS (Thermal Imaging System) used in the M1 Family. It also has a laser rangefinder. It's just a means for the scout/recon elements to observe an object or area from a greater standoff distance.

LRAS3 is a multi-platform sensor system, but no radar. It combines an eye-safe laser rangefinder, a 2nd-Gen thermal viewer, GPS and a day TV sensor to works to use those systems to spot targets at distance. It is used directly with Scout and fire support units to mark targets for strikes or to train gunners on target.

I don't know how close it is to the M1A2, but the CITV is a 2nd Generation viewer, so they could be close.

Now I'm just waiting for it in 1/35 form.

From strategypage.com

Quoted text : "The 3rd Infantry division took 42 LRAS3 with them to Iraq last year and used them during the march on Baghdad. The system performed very well, being constantly in use. Users did note again that the system is really too bulky for much dismounted (on the tripod) use. The 3rd Division scouts only did this once, after Baghdad airport had been taken. The scouts manhandled a LRAS3 unit in the control tower (where it was able to keep an eye on the open areas around the airport.). "

Well, my poor use of our native language. All FLIR and TIS/TTS systems replace both the PPS 5 and PPS 5A GSR sets we had at battalion level. As such, these technological marvels detect movement more effectively than the previous GSR systems. My conclusion, this is an advancement "over" ground radar not an advanced radar as I previously wrote. He who writes in haste, often miscommunicates.

Hi gang,
The LRAS3 as described is a FLIR/Day Tv sight that incorporates an eyesafe Laser range finder and GPS technology. Its a great piece of equipment that blows the FLIR for the Abrams and Bradley out of the water.
Here is a link of a version that I built in 1/35. Further down the page is a pic of my truck in OIF 2.
