Okay guys!

I have to admit that Im really confused with all those T-72 variants around. Well, I think I´m not the only one......anyway, I was never good in differ all those T-72´s.......

As some can remember I posted some photos of this beast some time ago.
As I plan to recreate it in 1/35 I wanna know which version/designation this is. It should be a GDR, maybe A/M1? Interesting is that it uses late-style roadwheels.....

Anyone can sheed some light?

Thanks in advance, guys,

Best regards,

Andy T.

I'm no expert either, but it looks like it has the glacis applique - appears to have the cut-outs around the tow lugs and driver's hatch. Turret seems to be -M1 style, notched under the increased frontal armor (which rules out the Tamiya turret), although missing everything else! T-72M1 with 6-spoke roadwheels?

Looking at pics, it seems that the 6-spoked road wheels were introduced on the T-72M1.

Hope this helps.

Hi Andreas, see if you can lay your hands on a copy of the Osprey New Vanguard publication on the T-72.It has every major variant listed with a few line drawings thrown in,i`m using mine at the moment to do an Iraqi one from the first gulf war and is a valuable resource for anything you might want to know.

T-72M1.

Roadwheels are not a indicator, as the 8 and 6 spoked versions interchangeable. There are pictures of T-72's with mixed setups.

Maybe Polish license built as well - I don't think the Russian made ones sported the applique.

Chris,

Yes the Soviets built T-72M1's with the applique, and even ended up using some inthe Red Army when a sale fell through. I have no numbers, but there were photo's posted on Tanknet if you want to go looking.

But it could be Polish, Soviet, or Czech built. But it is a T-72M1.

Thanks a lot guys, next beer is for you!

All those variants make me sometimes go crazy......

My first guess was M1 but was not sure at all. Thanks again for your VERY FAST and professional responses! I love this community!
