Hi,
I'm about to start working on the Revell 1/35 offering and have a small question about the commander cupola.
There's an MG ring on top of the hatch and there's no way that the hatch can open with it in place. I'm pretty sure that the ring, or at least part of it, is foldable. I can't find any pics on the Web but a video found on youtube seems to validate my opinion. We see the commander coming out and unfold(?) the MG ring in two parts but the video is not close enough to see exaclty how it's done.
Can someone shed some light on this and share a few pictures? This would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

This walkaround on Primeportal might help. It looks like part of the ring folds on top of the part that's fixed to the turret:

Thanks Marc
Exactly what I needed. I was looking for Panzerhaubitze instead of PzH on Primeportal that's why I never saw those pics

I have another PzH question, is there anyone who makes aftermarket tracks for the 1/35th kit?

Unfortunately, no. The Revell tracks are horrible, soft rubber that disintegrated on mine after a couple months. I ended up using Leopard 1 tracks on it. They are close enough, but don't have the wavy, offset track pads. They look close enough in the absence of exact replacements though.

AFV Club supply workable tracks (in plastic) for the Leopard 2 series of Tank. I've built the Panzerhaubitz myself & reckon you should be able to use the AFV club set. The vinyl ones supplied with the kit are quite poor.

The AFV Leopard 2 tracks are lovely but I suspect may be too wide for the PzH. I'm at work now and can't check details, but much of the PzH's running gear is derived from the Leopard 1 and my hazy memory of comparing kits was that the tracks were quite a bit narrower than the Leopard 2's. Odd, really, when you consider how large and heavy it is.
VERY happy to be corrected, though, if the sodding things are likely to perish on me.

I would appreciate any info about the tracks as I am building the same kit for the "Father and Son" campaign and I am about to attach the tracks on before I set the upper hull on the lower hull and wheels. The kit's own vinyl tracks are horrible as stated, they are too soft, they have injection holes and seam lines and they cannot be properly cleaned because of their softness. I would be more than happy if there's any possible replacement.

German Leopard 1 tracks are the closest to them. I raided an old Leo 1 kit for them. I'm not sure if anyone makes Leo 1 aftermarket tracks though.

Just as a point of reference, Sean is right, the Leopard I tracks are .55m (15.7mm at 1/35 scale) wide and the Leopard II tracks are .64m (18.28mm at 1/35 scale) wide so they are not interchangable. I have two Pzh2000 to build and, yes, the tracks are beyond awful. It's a shame, but the cheapest thing I can see to do is buy two of the Italeri kits at about $25 each from GM just to get the tracks. All the rest goes in the spares box or maybe one on a Faun transport as a cripple. I'll just have to charge more for the build.

I started the basic buildup of mine and the tracks have put it on hold for me for almost a year. That and seeming to find the eduard PE set is next to impossible, its even missing from their home site. Fruil and Voyager would do well to hook this kit up. I have no idea why it goes ignored, the kit comes up quite a bit in discussion on the forums here. If they had some am support I would get right back on it. I had thought about it too for the F&S campaign with the CH Ferdinand and the Pzh2000, but passed after looking for some detailing products.

I am building it for the Father& Son campaign together with an Italeri Elefant.
The more I build the kit, the more disappointed I have become. Some parts of the kit literally cry out for improvement and it was going through Hell putting together the main assemblies.
The tracks are hopeless. They are too soft and they dangle. They also have some flash, but you can not properly clean them with even a sharp medical scalpel, it either digs in or larger parts come out with the flashes, damaging the tracks.
Anyhow, I will build it out of the box in all cases. Hope the finished thing will look good.

I think the way to go with the stock tracks is to muddy it up big time

Hannants.co.uk have Eduard 35288 on their website, follow the link to the eduard.cz website to the .pdf instructions, to see if it's worthwhile....
