Based on the thread about types of artillery in use in the Gulf currently, I've quickly thrown a list together of some kits that are the best bet for obtaining a 1/35 model of the paticular beast.

Coalition

M198
Manufacturer: Aussie Armour
Reviews: http://www.thot.net/~trea/arreview/AAM198.htm
Notes: The Australian M198 is identical (bar colour) to the US version.

155mm AS-90
Manufacturer: Accurate Armour, Trumpter
Reviews: British 155mm AS-90 self-propelled howitzer (Trumpter)
Notes: The Trumpeter model is plastic, the AA model resin. The AA model is a lot more detailed (includes interior), but of course more expensive. The Trumpeter version has the 52 cal barrel, AA offers both the 39 cal and the 52 cal versions. Apparently VSEL provided much of the information required to AA.

M109A6 Paladin
Manufacturer: Italeri
Reviews: Kit Review: Italeri 1/35 Scale Kit No. 372; Paladin S.P. Howitzer; M109A6 Paladin
Notes: Apparently one of Italeri's rather nice kits

M270 MLRS
Manufacturer: DML/Dragon, Italeri
Reviews:
Notes: Italeri is a reboxed DML/Dragon kit. Note the DML/Dragon/Revell MARS does not make an accurate US version

M-30 122-mm Towed Howitzer/Type 54 122mm howitzer
Manufacturer: Zvezda, Italeri
Reviews:
Notes: Italeri is a reboxed Zvezda. Ewwww

D-30 2A18M 122-mm Towed Howitzer
Manufacturer: SKIF
Reviews: Kit Review: SKIF 1/35 Scale Plastic Model No. 215; 122mm Howitzer D-30
Notes:

2S1 M-1974 Gvodzika (Carnation)
Manufacturer: SKIF, AEF
Reviews: Skif 2S1 Gvozdika; Kit Review: SKIF 1/35 Scale Kit No. 206; 2S1 "Gvozdika";
Notes: SKIF is plastic, AEF is resin.

AUF-1 Canon de 155 AUtomoteur modèle F1
Manufacturer: Heller
Reviews:
Notes: Apparently quite poor

9K51 BM-21 Grad (Hail)
Manufacturer: ICM, Omega-K
Reviews: ICM #35381 Soviet BM-21 "Grad"
Notes: ICM is reboxed Omega-K

Hope that helps someone, I'll think about another list or too if I get some more time.

Cheers,
Linz

3ID is most likely using the M109A4 and A5s that were left in Doha, Kuwait. What towed 105mm is the 101st using? I don't think they still use the M102 that AFV Club kits, does anyone make the newer towed 105mm?

Well, in that case :-)....

Try the Italeri M109A2 (Kit No. 239) and converting it. As very recently listed on RMS :-) (this may sound familiar Rob), you need the new sight hood rather than the pop-top hatch cover on the left front of the turret

From what I can tell they use the M119, a tried and tested parachute capable gun (3RAR and 7LHA (?) + other British Regiments). As you may know, it is the L118 shown above with the following changes:

- Added U.S. standard fire control (digital)
- Increased low-temperature capability from -25 F to -50 F
- Improved interchangeability of spare/repair parts
- Simplified tail light assembly (standard M198 Howitzer lights)
- Improved trail access cover
- Reduced maintenance on the elevating clutch
- Increased trail life
- Improved maintainability on: Saddle and Cut-off gear

Unfortunatley AFAIK, there is no 1/35 kit of the L118/119 at all, meaning that your only option is to scratch one. Or hope that Aussie Armour make a L118 that you can convert.

Cheers,
Linz

Thanks for the post.... now all we need is some crew members to go with these weapons (I'm talking the M-198 especially). Though a few figure conversion could be made I suppose, especislall if the DML Modern Marine set is ever issued.
Any word on that?

I just found a Revell of germany kit for the M109A6 Paladin that is supposed to be a new release. It's a little more expensive than the Italeri.

Has anyone seen this kit or a review of it?
