Hi All,
can you help me please, I'm looking for a diorama that was shown on here maybe up to a couple of years ago??? Its was build in progress of a brigehead with a German convoy going over it, loads of troops and I think a building. The guy scratchbuilt the bridge in wood and had a step by step build photo's. I'd like to try and find it and do a similair build but can't find it. Anybody know where it is?
Thanks in advance,
Kenny.
P.S. My brother in law is a carpenter and I'm getting him enrolled, I plan to take photo's of it as I go and try posting it. I move to my new house October 31st and have a brand new workplace for my models and I'm trying to source all the info so I can start sourcing parts, kits & reference materials.
Kenny.

Hi Scott,
no sorry, this isn't the dio I'm looking for this was a big bridge, with 2 tanks I believe, a horse drawn cart, amd loads of figures, possibly around 50 or so, the guy had done some postings then I think a build review. I'm sure it was about a year ago. It was a big dio based around a German convoy, leaving or entering Russia, possibly a summer setting.

I remember it! It was only in a thread, never a feature Too bad it was great.
Don't remember too much of the bridge other than the railings and dual tack boards down the deck.
It's going to be hard to find?
I remember tanks, horses, men, wagons the whole thing, it was a large diorama.

Hi Scott,
I thought it was a build feature, but if it was just a thread, it's going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack, as it was quite a while back. Never mind, I'll just have to try my own way, modellingis always a challenge... l
It was quite a good thread as there was a lot of photo's explaining step by step and sizes of the wood he used. Do you know what size wood would be best for a biggish scale bridge? Thanks again,
Kenny.

It was called "Crossing the Desna River" and the dio was made by Eric Sikkema a Dutch Modeller. And it was turned into an article... Sadly the pictures do not work anymore. There is a chance they are in the old gallery... Don't know if that one still exists.

Funny how the memory works - you can remember the project but not the feature.
Robert that is the one I was thinking about. The style of the feature is very old too, no quick fix for editing this. It'll take a bit, but I'll try...

Absolutly right Scott! I knew this was the dio Stormin' wanted but could not remember the name or format (feature?etc.) it was in.
Still looks great today as it did then. Anyone know if the builder is still active?
Cheers!

Indeed true... Usually I have this too.. With this dio I somehow immediately knew what dio Kenny was looking for. And somehow in my mind there was also a vague idea that there had to be a feature about it too.
I happen to know the Builder Eric Sikkema although I haven't spoken him for a while now. Last time I saw him was already 1 or 2 years ago. As far as I know he was very busy with work and such and didn't do much modelling. I know he also did models and dio's for a Dutch Magazine.

Hi Guys,
Not exactly on subject, but if you can lay your hands on a copy of US Army Field Manuel 5-30 ( the Engineer's Bible) there is a lot of information about building timber bridges, including pier and decking layout. Your local library may have a copy.

Hi Faust, Rick & Scott,
Yup that was the dio I was meaning it hada great write up and photo's of how it was done, I had all the photo's saved to my old PC in Scotland but couldn't bring it with me to the US, so my kids got it and reformatted it and I lost all my stuff , but thanks for your help. I knew someone would remember it, shame it's lost as it was a good guide.
Cheers,
Kenny.
