So, our state of NSW in Australia has enjoyed a long weekend and I have used it to put some paint on my stryker.

First I sprayed two coats of Model Master enamel ussian tank green which ended up being way too dark. So then i drybrushed the kit with a mix of titanium white, the base colour and a light brown. This looked OK but I really wanted to model a really dusty Stryker direct from the streets of Iraq. so I made up a mix of white, Dunkelgelb and a bright yellow and sprayed it all over the bottom of the hull and suspension, building up the dust into the corners and feathering out to the edges. then I had the bright idea of a light spray over the whole hull with a heavier dusting along the lower hull. So anyway this is what resulted.

I am reasonably happy with the result but I will need to use some pigments to fully realise the amount of dust I want to depict. In addition I have all the stowage to add, paint the small details like the 50 cal, the headlights and add the decals.

I guess you could say I am on the home straight.

Cheers

Nick

I have to totally agree with Charles, this has been an inspirational effort in scratch building and you were the very first to do it too! You should be very proud that you saw this through to the end, well almost the end.
I can't wait to see how you resolve your vision of how this vehicle will look. Great work.

Well done Nick! That is some serious scratchbuilding!
Might I suggest that you change the antennas with a thinner material? They seem a bit out of scale...

Hey Zed,
Yeah you should be proud with it, she looks great, going to look better once you have it all weathered and geared up. I’m glad to see you went onto finishing it.

It may just be the lighting but the green looks a little on the light side. Enough with the nitpicking. That slat is amazing. And you did it all yourself. Even more impressive. I have really enjoyed reading this thread. My hats off to you.

Thanks for the kind words, without which this project would have been abandoned long ago.

With regard to the lightness of the base colour, this is meant to represent a very dusty vehicle and I have sparyed it liberally (probably too heavily) with a 'dust' colour of my own invention. It hasn't worked out as well as I would like and needs some pastel pigment to really look like dust...which will be the stage after I finish all the detail painting (periscopes, lights etc) and the decals. I hope to get some time on the weekend to finish this kit.

With regard to the antenna's I hope that they will look better when I have painted them. Darker colours are more slimming, didn't you know?

Also in one of the pictures above, it appears that one of the back wheels on the right hand side is turned...It must have been my rough handling and has now been fixed. It makes me itch to get the new AFV club kit and model the front four wheels turned and going over rough ground.

Cheers

Nick
