It looks like the Academy Dragon wagon has been released. At least I ran accross one on ebay. Has anyone purchased one yet?

Kent,
I picked one up a couple of weeks ago. Haven't built it, but poked through the box. It seems to be pretty good overall. The trailer looks pretty simplified to me on first glance. The price is a bit steep in the $20-$25 range.
Ironically, I bought my son the Forces of Valor 1/72 Dragon Wagon the same day and when comparing the two, I honestly felt that I could've save myself some trouble just buying the pre-assembled one.
If there's anything in particular you'd like to know, feel free to ask.

I too have both the FOV and the Academy Dragon Wagon.
While the FOV version is very nice it has a few short comings.
The first one that "I" noticed was the .50 Cal,
The second (and the most numerous),
are all the "rubber" parts that are all over the truck......
lots of flash, pooorly painted, not properly positioned.
The Cab (Tractor): is plastic, molded on details, heavly molded brush guards for head lights,
a "rubber" driver.
The Trailer: is metal, some parts get in the way of a model tank placed on it.
(I had to use a metal cutting tool to remove sections to place light tanks on it)
The Academy Kit while good, has it's short comings as well........
The "chain" drive is "poorly" detailed (looks like fan belts rather than chains)
Armored "flaps" for the windows has no "inside" detail (these show if you model the the kit "opened up"),
50 cal (no grips, and mediocre detail), no rear view mirrors, no "extended" legs for the front of the trailer.
Both FOV and Academy portray a vehicle pulling an M15 trailer .
To place a "heavy" tank (such as an M26 Pershing) you need to Modify it into an M15A1
I don't know if this answers your questions, but I hope it's a start.

Thanks for all the posts. I was planning to buy one anyway, but was trying to decide how quickly and price concious I should be.
I do have to admit that the Revell M3A2 Bradley I finished recently wound up looking alot like the FOV offerings at a glance. It can be discouraging to spend the same money and alot more time to get the same result. I like being able to make something unique and better detailed though. I just wish 1/72 decals weren't so hard to come by.

Ken, you forgot to mention your chain drive as a replacement for the kit provided part.

I was trying not to "advertise",
besides I still have a lot of work to do on the whole detail kit for this.
It looks more and more like I won't be able to get it done before I move.

Don't worry about it Charles,
I'm just trying to learn how not to "self promote".
It got me in "hot water" at another forum.
But as long as some one else brings it up........
I'm good.

So what I'm hearing is that someone does have a PE replacement for the prominent chain drive. Very interesting and something I would like to know more about myself. Is there a link or way to get more information?

Hi Kent,
Sorry, not PE, resin.
The only thing that PE is good for is screens in my book.
Here is a look at a painted example of my chains.
I hope this works.

Very nice. Hard to believe that is 1/72 scale. I've seen vintage 1/25 scale model trucks with chain drive that does not look that good. I'm assuming that there might be a way for an interested modeler to obtain some of these parts?
Sorry to assume it is PE. PE seems to be the "thing", though I agree that it really isn't that great for 3D representation. Kind of like using PE to model round bar armor. It might be a little easier and a little more to scale than an injection molded part, but it still is not quite right to have flat bars. :-)

Hi Again Kent,
I really don't know why I attacked the lack of detail in this kit with such fever.....
if you look here, you will see that Paul's model doesn't show very much of the "chain drive".
http://www.network54.com/Forum/47210/message/1187729306/
if you scroll down to the 5th image, you will see what I mean.
As far as you wanting the chains.......
since I am not done with making the "whole" detail set,
I'm letting the chains go for $8 + $5 (= $13) to cover the postage.
Please send it via Paypal to my e-mail address,
otherwise a money order will do.
But I need to know where you are to send them
Please send your address to my email.
