I'm looking at the spare parts on Spure N of DML's M1A2 SEP and it looks to include parts for the M1A2's Auxiliery Power Unit. Can anyone confirm or deny if this is the case? How would it fit together?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes it does have the APU from the M1A1 AIM kit. It is basically a box. It builds up as such, sides, top, bottom, etc.

The only thing you don't get for it is the small p.e. grills for it that the AIM kit had. No biggie I suppose.

thanks!
I have two more questions:

First, is the vehicle in this photo a M1A2 or an M1A2 SEP? and how can you tell the difference form a frontal view?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:060203-F-7823A-008.jpg

Can the DML M1A2 SEP be backdated to an M1A2 using the spares and optional parts in the box? or would there be some after market and scratch building involved?

Thanks again!
Mike.

It looks like a standard M1A2 from 3ACR (due to the blacked out markings). I say a standard M1A2 since it doesn't have the PLGR antenna mount on the CITV, a SEP feature. All other SEP features are on the rear of the tank adn can't be seen

You can make a standard M1A2 from the kit with a little work. The easy part is to leave all the SEP specific parts off; such as the VCU in the rear turret basket and its armored conduits, replace it with the APU, triangular exhaust outlet on the left rear, UAAPU intake on the left side hull rear, PLGR antenna mount on the side of the CITV. The hard part is to rework the left rear hull top plate. The SEP has a redesigned rear hull top to fit the UUAPU or Hawker battery system. This includes new access panels and the removal of the fuel cell and its filler cap. You would have to rebuild this whole area back to the original M1A1/A2 configuration.

It would actually be easier to take the M1A1 AIM and add the A2 specific parts to it. You would only need to swap out the commander's weapons station and add the CITV.

Good luck.
